Global Odyssey Event

Our participation in the Global Odyssey event, a student-led initiative focusing on showcasing diverse cultures, fell under the Creativity strand of CAS. My group and I set up food stalls representing various cuisines from around the world including Momos, pizza, french fries, mohito e.t.c. Alongside other groups presenting bands, games, and cultural displays, we aimed to exemplify the taste of global cultures. Our goals included not only having a fun and collaborative experience but also gaining exposure to the business management aspect of organizing such an event.

**Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience**

Organizing ourselves for the event involved meticulous planning, from deciding on the cuisines to setting up the stalls. I discovered the importance of detailed planning to ensure smooth execution. While I consider myself organized, I found the initiation phase more challenging due to the need for creativity and innovation. Through this experience, I honed my planning and initiating skills, realizing their crucial role in any endeavor. Knowing how to plan and initiate activities is vital as it lays the groundwork for success and ensures efficient utilization of resources.

**Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences**

The activity demanded a high level of commitment and perseverance, particularly during the preparation phase. Balancing schoolwork and extracurricular commitments tested my dedication to the project. Despite facing challenges, the sense of accomplishment upon completion made it worthwhile. Commitment and perseverance are essential as they cultivate resilience and determination, qualities vital for personal and academic growth.

**Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively**

Working collaboratively has its challenges, especially when coordinating diverse tasks and ideas. While I generally find collaboration rewarding, some aspects proved challenging during this activity. However, effective communication and compromise facilitated smooth teamwork. Handling difficult team members required patience and diplomacy, reinforcing the importance of adaptability in group settings. Collaborative skills are essential as they foster creativity, synergy, and shared responsibility, leading to more impactful outcomes.

**Final Takeaway:**

Through this activity, I developed characteristics of the Learner Profile, such as being a communicator, thinker, and risk-taker. The connection between this experience and my studies in Business Management became evident as I applied theoretical concepts in a practical setting. The event benefited others by promoting cultural understanding and appreciation. Personally, the highlight was witnessing the diverse talents and contributions of my peers. This experience challenged my perspectives and values, fostering a deeper appreciation for cultural diversity. Moving forward, I aim to apply the lessons learned from this activity in future endeavors, both academically and in my community involvement.

Overall, the Global Odyssey event was a rewarding experience that not only allowed me to contribute to my community but also provided valuable insights and skills that will undoubtedly shape my future endeavors.
