HDP AS Personal Finance And Investment:-
Our school’s HDP (Holistic Developement Programme) with a focus on Arts Special (AS) this semester, I opted for Personal Finance & Investments, a subject i was always interested in because who does not like money and it also made me financially independent. I also did my Grade 10 MYP Personal Project on the topic of FInancial literacy by making a booklet on avnenues of investments.Let’s just say, my financial literacy went from a light candle to a explosive candle and to explore the shaky world of stocks.
Learning about different avenues of investment was particularly eye-opening. We explored the world of stocks, diving into factors that influence their price and understanding the risks and potential rewards. Mutual funds and bonds were demystified, giving us a glimpse into diversified investment strategies.
The program wasn’t just theoretical. We participated in a simulated stock market game, putting our newfound knowledge to the test. Starting with a virtual budget and paper trading , we researched companies, analyzed trends, and made investment decisions. The thrill of seeing our portfolios grow was a valuable lesson in the dynamic nature of the market.
The impact of HDP AS extends beyond the classroom. I now feel more confident managing my own finances, creating a realistic budget, and understanding the implications of everyday financial decisions. Sharing what I learned with friends and family has sparked conversations about budgeting and saving for the future. The club has made me financially independent.
Learning Outcomes:-
LO1:Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
The areas of growth I was able to identify were that I was able to develop my confidence and strengthen my research and analysis skills in the field and start my own portfolio of stocks through which i learned many new things.
LO 2:Demonstrate The Challenges Have Been
Undertaken,Developing New skills
When i first joined the club i had the basic knowledge of finance as i did my personal project on financial literacy .Since then i have learned a lot from the club like taxation, budgeting, mutual funds, bonds, etc.I also started investing first i had decided to do long term investing but now i have started short term trading and started earning money, hence starting to be financially independent .
LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences.I have been actively attending the club for the past nine months now and managing to complete the tasks/assignments on time of this club alongside my studies and exams have been a bit of a challenging task but I have stayed committed to the club and religiously completed all the assignments showing perseverance.
This HDP AS program has been more than just acquiring financial skills. It’s about gaining the confidence to navigate the often-intimidating world of finance. It’s about making informed decisions about our future and feeling empowered to take control of our financial well-being. Personally, I’m no longer afraid to explore investment opportunities, understanding that calculated risks can lead to long-term or short term gains.
So, if you’re looking to go beyond the textbook and gain practical skills that will benefit you throughout your life, I highly recommend checking out your school’s HDP AS program.
