Trip to Igatpuri: CAS Reflection

In September, I went on a trip to Igatpuri. The main purpose of the trip was to trek through the Igatpuri mountains, but it also gave me the chance to relax and enjoy time with my friends. It was exciting to see everyone staying up and having fun throughout the night. Our trip schedule included activities like teaching children at a local government school, trekking, and cleaning up dams. During this experience, I went on a two-hour uphill hike, visited a nearby dam to clean up trash, and enjoyed the breathtaking scenery. We also visited a government school in a nearby village, where we played various games with the children. I felt immense joy interacting with the students and admiring the lush greenery from the hilltop.

LO2 – Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills

The most challenging part of the trip was trekking, largely because of the weather. The slippery terrain made it hard to maintain a firm grip, and I found myself slipping several times. Despite these difficulties, the experience taught me valuable lessons that would be useful in similar situations in the future. Additionally, interacting with local schoolchildren presented a challenge due to the language barrier, as I was in a different state. This difficulty in communication led to mutual learning, as the students taught me their native language, Marathi, while I attempted to teach them.

LO5 – Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

Cleaning the dam was a team effort, as the task was too large for any one person to handle alone. We supported each other, with some holding garbage bags while others picked up the trash. This coordination and teamwork were essential for completing the project successfully. Similarly, during the trek, we worked together to navigate the cold and slippery conditions, helping one another along the way.

LO6 – Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

One significant issue we addressed was the lack of hygiene and cleanliness in rural areas. By taking the initiative to clean up the dam, we contributed to addressing this global concern. Another global issue is the lack of access to quality education and awareness for children in rural communities. By interacting with students in a government school and engaging them in one-on-one conversations, I was able to address this issue and make a positive impact.
