


The math PI day was one of the best experiences for me. This experience allowed me to share my knowledge of mathematics with other students, teachers, and people who are interested. What made me very excited was the fact that we were allowed to choose the topics on our own and also decide our method of presenting. This intrigued me as I love presenting mathematical concepts in a unique way to showcase its beauty and open-ended application in the world. The math PI day took place on the 14th of March showcasing the number “3.14” of PI. We had a whole month to prepare on our presentation as there were various stalls placed and required commitment other than school time.
Learning Outcome 1 — Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Mathematics is personally my most favorite subject and I’m also really good at it. The PI day event allowed me to identify my own areas of strength and develop areas for growth because I was really good at presenting mathematical concepts in a unique way. I developed in various areas of growth as the PI day event intrigued me to present a unique mathematical problem with a solution that would make the audience go “Wow man, that’s some amazing math”. Hence, the math PI day allowed me to identify my own areas of strength and develop in mathematics by learning new concepts and then presenting them to an audience.
Learning Outcome 2 — Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
Though I have unique ideas in depicting mathematical problems like “The Monty Hall” problem, it became really challenging to me after a point because it was all about creativity and art skills. I knew exactly what to make, but lacked in the art skills of making it perfect so that the audience is attracted by the presentation itself. Therefore, during the process of developing the artistic representation of “The Monty Hall” problem, I undertook the challenge of art that I’ve always tried to escape which allowed me to develop new skills in the process of sharing my mathematical knowledge. Hence, the PI day was effective as it allowed me to explore my artistic skills by applying them for mathematics.
Learning Outcome 4 — Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
My mathematical inclination acted as a driving force for me to stay committed towards the one month long CAS experience. The major reason for my commitment and perseverance in the CAS experience was because I enjoyed the process a lot, discussing the process with my colleague and teachers, and gaining their inputs on the way I would present the mathematical concept.
Learning Outcome 5 — Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
I was partnered with my friend, Kshiraj Thummar. Together, we had set up two stalls, one for metallic ratios and the other one for “The Monty Hall Problem”. We had worked collaboratively, took out time from our free slots and breaks, and came early-ins together, so that we could give out the best presentation. This allowed me to recognize the benefits of working collaboratively while I also demonstrated my collaboration skills.
Learning Outcome 6 — Engagement with issues of global significance
I believe, the entire human knowledge can be well-justified by mathematical reasoning. Math is what defines us, and Math is what has propelled humanity safely in the modern age. Nor only does it allow us to verify our understanding, but helps us come up with logical theories simply based upon our empirical observations, and sometimes even without observing things we can make mathematical predictions that hold true. Hence, this event might spark the mathematician within a person, which, who knows might discover something crazy!
During the final day and while preparing for the PI day, I developed various learner profile characteristics including:

- Inquirer
- Open-Minded
I was a communicator while working collaboratively with my colleagues. I was a thinker and inquirer while thinking about different ways to present new mathematical concepts to people that might also be interesting. I was open-minded while presenting the concepts on the stall during the PI day since I had to accept the perspectives of other people as well, though it might not be correct, but initially I had to hear them out and then respond.
