Our school recently held a vibrant Mother Tongue Event,which was student-led! This wasn’t just a showcase of languages; it was a celebration of cultures, Witnessing the passion and pride on stage was truly inspiring. we students in order to spread the idea did many performance such as speech, stand-up comedy, dance etc…
For me, the event was far more than entertainment. It became a platform for self-discovery. Participating helped me identify my strengths. As one of the few fluent speakers of my mother tongue in my grade, I co-ordinated a skit as well as speech. Facing the audience, a nervous thrill coursed through me, but the applause at the end was pure validation. It pushed me outside my comfort zone and revealed a talent for public speaking I hadn’t known I possessed.
The event also highlighted areas for growth. Collaborating with classmates from diverse backgrounds opened my eyes to the richness of different cultures. It made me realize I could delve deeper into learning more about my own heritage, its traditions, and stories.
But the true impact transcended personal growth. The event tackled an issue of global significance: the erosion of cultural identity. In today’s fast-paced world, the pressure to conform can be immense. We chase trends, forgetting the languages, stories, and traditions that connect us to our roots. This event was a beautiful reminder of the value of cultural diversity. It served as a beacon, encouraging everyone to reconnect with their heritage, no matter how “modern” the world seems.
Mother Tongue wasn’t just a performance; it was a conversation starter. It sparked discussions about the importance of preserving languages and traditions. It was a powerful message, delivered in a multitude of voices, reminding us that embracing our roots strengthens not only ourselves but also the vibrant tapestry of humanity.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
as said earlier, thought I knew one of my strength which the fluent speaking in gujarati, I did not know the weaknesses and the area of growth which is public speaking, speaking in front of such large audience helped me realise how much different it is in practise and to speak in front of people, and this lesson has been with me till now.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance.
due to internet people are looking more toward s the modern world and have been steadily losing the value and beliefs of the culture, this event not only helped the people who attended the event but also gave me another view on the importance of culture in our lives.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Preparing for the Mother Tongue Event demanded a great deal of perseverance and commitment. As part of the preparation team, I dedicated countless hours to organizing rehearsals and ensuring that every detail was perfect. This included arriving at school early for several days to practice with my peers and refine our performances. Despite the challenges of managing time alongside academic responsibilities, I stayed committed to the goal of making the event a success. The experience taught me the value of dedication and the rewards that come from consistent effort, especially when working towards a shared vision.
LO3: My involvement in the Mother Tongue Event required careful planning and coordination. I took the initiative to help form the team and played a key role in selecting the play that best represented our cultural heritage. By collaborating with my peers and aligning on the event’s vision, I ensured that our performance was both impactful and cohesive. This experience sharpened my organizational skills and taught me the importance of planning in executing a successful event.
