As part of my CAS journey, I took on a 100-day Python course in 2023, committing to at least one hour of coding every day to develop my skills as a complete beginner. Balancing this challenge with schoolwork and other responsibilities was not easy, but the experience was immensely rewarding, allowing me to develop perseverance, face new challenges, and learn the ethics of dedication and responsibility in learning something entirely new.
LO1: Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth
This experience helped me identify my strengths, such as my willingness to learn and adapt, which enabled me to tackle complex concepts in coding over time. However, I also became aware of areas needing improvement, like debugging and problem-solving under time constraints. By reflecting on these challenges, I could focus more on building logical thinking skills, which enhanced my ability to tackle unfamiliar tasks with patience and persistence.
LO2: Demonstrating Challenges Undertaken and Developing New Skills
Learning Python from scratch was a significant challenge, as I had no prior experience in coding. Each lesson introduced new concepts, and many required a lot of practice to understand fully. By committing to daily practice, I was able to develop foundational coding skills, such as writing functions, working with loops, and even creating small programs. Completing each module was a milestone, reinforcing my confidence and skills in a challenging new field.
LO4: Showing Commitment and Perseverance
Sticking to a daily schedule for 100 days required a high level of dedication, especially with school assignments and other responsibilities. There were days when finding an extra hour was difficult, but I remained committed to completing the course. This experience taught me the importance of perseverance, as consistency proved essential to making meaningful progress and completing the course successfully.
LO7: Recognizing and Considering the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Completing this Python course involved ethical self-discipline; I was responsible for my own progress and learning pace. By maintaining honesty in my work and adhering to the course’s guidelines, I developed a sense of responsibility for my learning outcomes. This self-discipline reinforced the value of integrity in education and showed me that ethical dedication is key to any meaningful achievement.
Conclusion:
Completing the 100-day Python course was both challenging and rewarding. I developed my coding abilities from scratch, strengthened my perseverance, and learned the importance of integrity and responsibility in self-driven learning. This experience has left me with a strong sense of accomplishment and motivation to continue learning, as well as the confidence to apply my new skills to future coding projects.
