For my CAS project, I dedicated three months to collecting plastic waste and raising awareness about the Eco Vision organization’s efforts. I supported their initiative by promoting plastic waste collection across various communities and assisted in gathering waste from different neighborhoods. To spread awareness, I utilized social media platforms, including creating a video highlighting the collection process. Eco Vision repurposes plastic waste into useful items. Through this initiative, I successfully organized and collected plastic waste from our school as well.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

During this project, a few fellow students and I took the lead in planning and executing the entire awareness campaign. We created a video to promote our initiative and formed a student community to collaborate with us. Additionally, we visited each class to inform and inspire students to support our efforts. The project was entirely conceptualized and carried out by our team. Moreover, planning this experience needed efficiency and consistency as well.

LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Working collaboratively helped me to reach greater audience and spread awareness at a larger scale. With the use of social media, posters, and other modes of promoting this project was a successful one. With seniors and other people present in the group there were varied opinions and vast range of perspectives involved in the planning of the project. Furthermore, video making, collecting plastic waste material from different houses and societies, interacting with people around and communicating with organizations developed my communication skills, time management skills, social skills as well as creative thinking skills. All together these skills provided me with a base for efficiently making this project a successful one.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

This project aligned closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of Responsible Consumption and Production and Sustainable Cities and Communities. By collecting and submitting plastic waste to the Eco Vision organization, we enabled it to be repurposed into useful plastic articles, thereby reducing waste and contributing to sustainable urban environments. Our efforts emphasized the importance of reusing plastic, promoting responsible consumption, and ensuring that resources are efficiently utilized.

LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Recognizing and considering the ethics of choices and actions in plastic waste management involves reflecting on how our decisions impact the environment, society, and future generations. Ethically, it is our responsibility to minimize harm by reducing plastic use, promoting reuse, and ensuring proper disposal. By choosing to manage plastic waste responsibly, we contribute to environmental sustainability, protect ecosystems, and support healthier communities. Actions such as recycling, supporting organizations that repurpose plastic waste, and educating others about the importance of sustainable practices reflect ethical decision-making and promote long-term well-being.
