Rock climbing

The rock climbing sessions were organized in school through early ins and I participated in 4 sessions from 18th January 2024 to 6th February 2024

At first I was bit skeptical if should join rock climbing or not as I thought I would not enjoy it but I realised that it is important to learn new things and especially things I am skeptical about. Through rock climbing I pushed myself to perform well and my main target was to touch the end of the wall and not the time I take as I knew how my arm strength was weak. The start of sessions were through warm ups which included jogging and basic exercises. Then we all had to climb up the walls 2 times in each session. In the first session, I was only able to climb up to a point and then started to feel tired. I tried the next session as well but got stuck at the same point and then I realised that not only I was tired but the point I had towards myself that my arm strength is weak did not make me reach the top. Whereas, at the last session I was finally able to reach the top. Not only I enjoyed rock climbing a lot but I wanted to do more of these sessions as I could finally develop skills in sports. I also tried climbing the inclined wall but as the steps were very small, at some point I lost the grip and had to come back. We also did vertical climbing in one of the sessions.

LO1 :Identify own strengths and areas of growth

The first thing I identified was my weakness which was my arm strength not being strong which I did not before these sessions.I also realised after these sessions that body strength is something I need to work on and have started working on it. One strength I identified was that I had the capability to continue even if I did not achieve my goal at the start, this kept me motivated to keep trying to reach the top of the wall.

LO2:Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

The major challenge was waking up early and then directly exercise. As this was not a part of my routine, it was very challenging for me to wake up during winters and then exercise and then climb up the wall. Moreover, as I had never tried rock climbing it was challenging for me to try this sport out as well but after many tries I felt I could develop new skills and gather the motivation to wake up early.

LO4:Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The major commitment required was to wake up early in the morning during winters but as soon as I realised that this process is helping me stay fresh, I could get up early in the morning and come to school for these sessions. Moreover, as I was unable to reach the top of the wall, I was persistent in trying again and again till the end and at the end, I was finally able to climb up the wall. This not only made me learn a new skill but taught me how being persistent is the key.
