Rock climbing has been one of the most challenging yet interesting CAS experiences of all. We had total of 4 session. Initially I had taken rock climbing as my personal sport which is offered from school but it has been years since I last did that, so participating in a sport which requires a lot of physical work and capabilities after so many years was exciting and challenging. We all were called early for our rock climbing session. The session starts with warm up and a few of the stretching exercises before climbing.
During our first session we were given instructions for our safety and regarding harnesses. We were taught how to lock, how to protect our body while coming down and more. Our target was to touch the top part of the wall. Before climbing I observed others and the techniques they were using in order to reach the top of the wall, where some were able to and some were not. So during my first climb, I started off with great energy, but in the middle I got stuck and was still for a few minutes. The grip caused my hand to start hurting so bad. I was so near to giving up before I pushed myself up and completed the rest and even touched the top of the wall.
LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
It all starts by waking up early in the morning. Some days it was simple, but other mornings I had to force myself out of bed and find motivation to make it to the session. In addition, the level of toughness increased with each of our sessions, which also became a challenging element for me in order to reach till the target.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
Showing up to all of the sessions required commitment towards the CAS experience, because on some days I wasn’t able to complete the target and reach the end of the wall then it use to demotivate me. So by representing perseverance I gave my best I could and tired to complete the task for the session no matter the level of toughness. Additionally as I was doing something out of my comfort zone, it was sometimes demotivating while level got hard yet with my constituency and commitment I was able to finish my sessions of rock climbing.
Towards the conclusion, I would say rock climbing was fun and interesting, where I portrayed the learner profile attribute “risk-taker” by coming out of my comfort zone and trying sport after so many years. Adding on, I was also consistent by not missing any of session due to which it was possible for me to reach my goal and also be good at this sport.
