Our much-anticipated journey to Kada Dam in Jambughoda began with an unforgettable bus ride, filled with excitement, laughter, and high expectations. After a quick breakfast en route, we reached our destination, settled into our rooms, and immediately dove into the fun and adventure that awaited us.

Day 1: Immersion in Rural Life

Our first stop was a visit to a nearby village, where we were captivated by the villagers’ serene patience and calm demeanor. Despite the challenges they face, they greeted us with warm smiles and an optimistic outlook on life. Their resilience left a profound impact on us as they emphasized that good things come through consistency, discipline, and practice.

During this visit, I realized a strength in my ability to empathize with others’ situations (Learning Outcome 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth). However, I also noticed a weakness in my patience when confronted with unfamiliar challenges, motivating me to work on this aspect of myself.

Back at the campsite, we set out on a thrilling night trek to the dam. Navigating through the eerie darkness of the jungle was both daunting and exhilarating. We learned about wildlife conservation and the significance of respecting nature’s delicate balance (Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process). This trek taught me to stay calm and focused even in the face of uncertainty.

We ended the day by gathering around a campfire, sharing ghost stories and enjoying quality time with our teachers and friends. It was a night filled with laughter and camaraderie—a perfect start to our adventure.

Day 2: Broadening Horizons

The second day began with an early morning bird-watching session, followed by a visit to another village where we engaged with local APMC authorities at a hospital. We learned about the community’s struggles with sickle cell disease, highlighting the global issue of healthcare access in rural areas (Learning Outcome 6: Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance). This experience made me more aware of the disparities in healthcare and the importance of supporting efforts to bridge these gaps.

Later, we tried our hand at pottery, which required patience and perseverance (Learning Outcome 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences). Although shaping clay was challenging at first, the sense of accomplishment after creating a pot was immensely rewarding.

In the evening, we collaborated to prepare our own dinner. Despite occasional disagreements, we learned to respect each other’s perspectives, making the experience all the more meaningful.

Day 3: Strengthening Community Bonds

On the third day, we visited a local school and spent time with the children, playing games and dancing to their favorite songs. Their joy and enthusiasm were contagious, and we felt a deep sense of fulfillment contributing to their happiness. Later, we explored the village market, shopped for local goods, and visited a nearby cowshed (gavshala). Each interaction provided deeper insights into rural life and the daily challenges faced by the villagers.

Day 4: Experiencing Farm Life

Day four was dedicated to hands-on farming activities. We plowed fields, sowed seeds, watered crops, and even harvested produce. This eye-opening experience made us appreciate the labor-intensive nature of farming (Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process). Though physically demanding, the satisfaction of contributing to this process was immense.

We also engaged in basket making and school painting, activities that required careful planning and coordination (Learning Outcome 3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience). The experience underscored the importance of adaptability and collaboration in a new environment.

Day 5: Adventures in the Wild

The fifth day took us on an exhilarating trek through mountains, forests, and caves. Holding snakes and learning about them from our guide was a thrilling experience that pushed us out of our comfort zones (Learning Outcome 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process).

In the evening, we were treated to a clear, star-studded night sky, free from the light pollution of city life. Witnessing shooting stars was a magical experience that we’ll treasure forever.

Day 6: A Grand Finale

Our final day at the campsite was packed with excitement. We tried zip-lining and the flying fox, activities that required meticulous teamwork to set up (Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively). The thrill of soaring through the air was matched only by the sense of accomplishment in helping prepare for the activities.

The highlight of the day was an unexpected visit to a site where wild tigers, known for hunting humans, were held in cages.
