Rural Immersion was a 6-day journey in December in which I looked into the lifestyle of people living in rural areas, shared moments with underprivileged people, and taught and played games with those children, generating some treasured memories. I had a notion of what life in a rural area is like from the outside, but living there with them was a life-changing experience that helped me get out of my comfort zone. There were many new things I learned about agriculture, where in I developed the learner profile communicators, as it was a rural area we weren’t sharing the same language which was one of the major challenges I faced, however it was always a wonderful moment interacting with them.
L2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
I was accustomed to the conveniences of city life, so adjusting to the slower pace and lack of modern amenities in rural areas proved tough at first. I also learned many new skills, such as milking cows, sowing seeds, farming, and other common village tasks. These were new experiences that were also rather enjoyable, despite the fact that the activities were tough to carry out due to problems such as broad daylight, walking large distances to reach the destination, and so on, but learning something new is always entertaining.
L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The schedule for the trip included rural-themed activities that allowed us to delve deeply into their daily lives. Throughout the trip, I was committed and persevered in every activity, whether it was difficult tasks like sowing seeds and milking cows in broad daylight or simply sitting and engaging with the locals; the energy I carried was consistent, demonstrating my dedication to the CAS trip.
L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
In numerous activities, my batchmates and I worked together in groups to perform the tasks we were assigned. Starting with teaching school children about sports and playing games like football, kho-kho, and many others, to conducting entertaining science experiments with them. There were also group activities in farming, where we divided roles and distributed tasks to ensure that our assignment was completed efficiently. Overall, working together aided in the majority of activities and provided additional benefits.
L6. Engagement with issues of global significance
Watching how those individuals live their lives reminded me of how fortunate and blessed I am. They don’t even have basic necessities, yet they are living their lives to the utmost. Their lifestyle demonstrated the extent of global inequality and unfairness. The students there were not appropriately educated for their age; teenagers had begun working and earning for their families instead of acquiring an education. This demonstrated how large this issue is, not just in one part of the world, but worldwide. To help fix it, we educated those youngsters, played with them, danced with them, and interacted with them for a few days, which was a modest start towards resolving the issue.
Conclusion:
To conclude, this was a fantastic trip that encouraged me to venture outside of my comfort zone. It taught me that even when individuals do not have basic necessities and face the most terrible problems in life, they nevertheless enjoy and live their lives cheerfully. This also helped me develop a learner profile attribute which is open-minded as this gave me a whole different perspective on the world and helped me acquire important life lessons.
