To truly grow as individuals and contribute positively to society, it’s essential for us to embrace challenges that may seem unconventional. A recent CAS trip to Lachhakadi, a remote village near Navsari, perfectly encapsulated this philosophy. Stepping away from our familiar urban surroundings, we immersed ourselves in the authentic rural lifestyle, connecting with the local community and living amidst nature’s abundance for six enriching days. It was an eye-opening experience, introducing me to a facet of our country that I had never explored before.
LO2 :Â Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
As we ventured into uncharted territory, we encountered a myriad of challenges that pushed us out of our comfort zones and propelled our personal growth. One such challenge involved delving into the intricacies of turmeric farming, where we worked alongside local farmers to cultivate this prized spice from the earth. Not only but living in simplistic surroundings and with the utmost basic facilities was a new challenge for us being in the urban areas we have the facility to have access to everything we want.
LO3 : Initiate and plan a CAS experience.
We had planned multiple activities in the rural area which included planning games for government school children, making a skit with a message to reflect our learnings of the trip and along with that planning to clean up and make the walls of the government school creative with warli painting. It was tough and tiring to all of these tasks but with collaboration and hard work we were able to plan all of the activities and execute them successfully.
LO4 :Â Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
The physical demands of shoveling, digging, and meticulously separating turmeric from the soil tested our endurance and perseverance. During our expedition, we encountered a multitude of novel challenges that introduced us to diverse experiences, however, through perseverance and teamwork, we not only managed to complete the task but also gained a newfound appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the farmers.
LO6 :Â Engagement with issues of global significance.
Our immersion in rural life shed light on pressing global issues such as deforestation and climate change . Conversations with local residents over shared meals provided valuable insights into the real-life impact of environmental degradation on their livelihoods. Witnessing firsthand the interconnectedness between sustainability and community well-being sparked meaningful reflections on our role in addressing global challenges beyond the classroom.
