As part of my CAS journey, I had the opportunity to participate in a 7-day rural immersion trip to Mokhamal, located in the Dang district. This experience not only broadened my understanding of rural communities but also challenged me in ways that allowed for personal growth and deeper engagement with global issues. I will be reflecting on three learning outcomes through this blog LO4, LO6, and LO7.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The week-long immersion required a high level of commitment and perseverance, especially during physically and mentally challenging tasks. Learning how to make baskets from the locals demanded patience and precision, I often felt frustrated when my basket didn’t turn out as expected when tried making it. The trekking experience was physically demanding, especially when navigating steep, rugged terrain under the hot sun. Despite the exhaustion, I pushed myself to continue.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

One of the most striking aspects of this trip was the exposure to global issues like education inequality and sustainable livelihoods. The visit to the local school highlighted the challenges faced by children in rural areas who lack access to quality education and resources. Engaging with the students gave me a new perspective on the disparity between urban and rural education systems.

LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the trip, I was constantly reminded of the ethical implications of my actions. Engaging with the local community, especially in the school and during basket-making sessions, required sensitivity and respect for their way of life. I was aware that as a visitor, I had to ensure that my presence and actions did not come off as intrusive.
