Support Staff Talent Show

As a part of our CAS experience, I anchored the FS Support Staff Talent Show on 21-September 2024. The volunteer’s amazing talents were showcased during this talent show, which also emphasized the virtues of commitment, leadership, and teamwork. This show also featured a wide variety of performers, including singing, dancing, poetry readings, and acting.

LO1- Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

I have been a anchor before, but making the event run with a smooth flow is one of the major role of anchor, which I have never been able to, It was one of the major development area for my personal growth. My communication skills were developed to a great extent.

LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.

All of the major planning for the event was done except the decorations and we only had 3-4 days left for the event. With only 6 volunteers we started the planning for the decorations, all we did in our free slots and playtimes was create the decorations. With only 1 day left for the event, we asked a few of our friends if they could help us in the decorations and with their help we completed all of the decorations in time.  It was the day of the event and we started decorating the Y-box along with managing the participants and the audience. We faced some issues during the event like we got short of time because of which we had to skip a few energizers that we planned in between performances to keep the audience engaged and energized. But against all of the odds, the FS got talent show was finally over and we all had a lot of fun in organizing and executing the event.

LO3- Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience.

I managed the flow of the event from planning to execution. It began a week before the set date for the event. I started by preparing the script for all of the categories that the talent show should have. I added all the categories and the name of the participants in the script, added some energizers, and jokes to entertain them.

LO4- Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

We expected a maximum of 30 participants and a minimum of 10 participants. After a few days, we checked the details and we had around 15 entries for the event as participants. We then began to ask them personally according to the categories they selected and we asked for the confirmation. In the start we did not get enough response from the staff so we started to ask all the staff so that we don’t have any delays in the event.

LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.

I used my communication skills, to prepare the script, but there were flaws in my script, so I asked my supervisor and the team to help me improve the script, while demonstrating the skills, and working effectively and collaboratively.

LO6- Demonstrate engagement with issues of global significance.

Support Staff talent show focused more on the SDG 4- quality education. This event showed us the importance of extra curricular activities, and engaging activities for quality education. I have seen the support staff of other schools stressed up because of the amount of workload they have. Being in FHS, I know how difficult and stressful it is for managing the workload and dealing with the constant pressure of completing everything on time, but events like Support Staff talent show really shows how these events can reduce the stress of the support staff, and also be new learnings for them.
