As an art student, I was thrilled to take on the responsibility of assisting with the final Visual Arts (VA) exhibition for our seniors. The exhibition was a culmination of their hard work and creativity, and I knew I could contribute by ensuring everything was prepared and perfectly organized. From gathering the necessary resources to designing invitations and helping set up their artworks, this experience was both rewarding and a learning journey. It aligned with my CAS strand of Creativity, as well as various CAS learning outcomes, helping me grow as a communicator and team member.

LO1 – Identifying Strengths and Areas for Growth

Having experience in art myself, I recognized that one of my key strengths was understanding how to arrange and present artworks. I used my knowledge of composition and space management to help my seniors place the artworks in ways that would enhance their visual impact. However, through this experience, I realized that my organizational skills could be further developed. While I was confident in my artistic knowledge, coordinating resources and managing the timing of tasks showed me where I could improve in terms of planning and execution.

LO2 – Tackling Challenges and Developing New Skills

Helping prepare for the exhibition wasn’t without its challenges. One of the biggest hurdles was managing the tight schedule and ensuring that all the pieces were hung in time. I also encountered difficulties with certain installations, where finding the right tools and materials became an issue. Through these challenges, I developed new skills in time management. I also learned to adapt quickly, thinking of creative solutions when things didn’t go as planned, such as rearranging artwork placements when space became limited.

LO3 – Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience

From the outset, I was actively involved in initiating and planning this CAS project. Once I decided to help with the VA exhibition, I began coordinating with my seniors and my teacher to understand their needs. I created a checklist of tasks that needed to be completed, from gathering art supplies to making invitations. By taking the initiative, I ensured that everything was on track, and I could provide the necessary support to my seniors. This planning stage helped me hone my organizational skills, teaching me the importance of structure and foresight in any project.

LO4 – Showing Perseverance and Commitment

The process of setting up the exhibition was both time-consuming and physically demanding. From preparing invitations to helping mount large pieces of artwork, there were moments of exhaustion. However, I remained committed to seeing the exhibition through. I understood the importance of my role in making the event successful, which pushed me to continue even when the tasks became repetitive or tiring. My perseverance was rewarded when I saw how pleased my seniors were with the final setup and how smoothly the event unfolded.

LO5 – Collaboration: The Power of Teamwork

One of the most important aspects of this experience was working collaboratively. I wasn’t alone in helping with the exhibition—there was a team of students, and we each had different responsibilities. My job involved working closely with my peers to coordinate different parts of the exhibition, from designing the layout to arranging the artworks. Communication was key; I had to ensure that I was constantly in touch with my team and seniors to avoid confusion. This collaborative experience taught me the importance of relying on others and how teamwork can result in a smoother, more efficient process. The collective effort made the exhibition a success, and it was satisfying to see how our combined skills elevated the event.

Conclusion 

Being part of the VA exhibition support team was an enriching and educational experience that allowed me to apply my strengths as an art student while growing in new areas. I learned how to better manage time, troubleshoot problems, and work effectively in a team. Most importantly, it was fulfilling to see my efforts contribute to the success of my seniors’ final exhibition, knowing that my support helped make their event a memorable one. This CAS experience allowed me to develop as a communicator, collaborator, and creative thinker, all while further deepening my passion for art.
