(Completing the stand C- creativity, since we selected the designs that are to be painted on the wall, created sketches and then painted the wall and S- service because this was a service to our school.)

As an arts student I am always looking for opportunities to explore different media’s and textures. Considering this opportunity helped me understand how to work on such big projects. This was my first time working on a wall where the school provided me with the opportunity to paint wall of the school for a project: First Impressions. There are a lot of differences between working on a canvas and working on a wall. The texture is different, the paint brush used might differ but most importantly the technique differs. This activity helped me learn how to freely operate hands on a wall. The whole experience taught me some lessons that will be highly useful to me in the future.

This activity helped me identify my strengths and weakness. I was able to understand that holding the tip of the brush closely isn’t going to help me paint such a huge area, I had to change the posture. My weakness at the beginning was that I could not freely paint a huge line, but when I became aware of it, I consulted my teacher and learnt how to. Eventually my lines got way better. Overcoming my weakness benefited me I got to know the technique and this will not only be helpful now but in the future when I take such huge projects. It is important for us to know our strengths and weakness. Knowing our weaknesses help us know where to improve and knowing our strengths will allow us to succeed in those area. This will help you self-analyse and succeed.

This whole task at first seemed challenging. I was very excited to work on this project but when we had to actually execute the painting I got scared. This is because the wall was huge and I had to draw cartoons which is something I have never practiced. Moreover, the texture of the wall did not allow us to erase properly and so our first try was the last try. Also this was the wall of our school so once we started painting, there was no going back. We could not mess this up. I have never done anything similar before. I feel very grateful to have taken this challenge because it left me with some lifelong learnings. I overcame this challenge by going slow, I used a pencil to sketch (instead of a chalk so that I could at least make it lighter), I took guidance from our teacher and gradually learnt how to paint on the wall. It is important for us to take challenges because we never know what we might discover. This challenge actually turned out to be very fun. This provided me with the experience which is going to be super helpful in the future.

There were a lot of factors that made this activity difficult. One of the factor being time. We were not given time in our school hours, we had to come early in and work. This project was at the time of Navratri (which meant we were tired from garba and slept at late night but had to come early and work). It was pretty challenging but I committed fully to it. The difficulty of committing to things differs from tasks to tasks. I was highly interested in this project however my days became hectic due to the schedule and we had a very tight deadline to complete this project. Moreover the project was near our exams so managing everything was difficult. But showing perseverance and commitment is very important and so I did show them.

FINAL TAKEAWAY

This experience is going to help me a lot. There is a link between my career preference and this CAS experience. I want to pursue arts as my career and so the skills learnt through this experience will be highly useful. This activity not only benefits me but my school. Our school needed the walls to look attractive and now as they are beautifully painted, it is a benefit to our school.

This activity brought a sense of enjoyment to me. Firstly because I was thrilled to be a part of this project. This was my first time painting a wall and that too of our school. I was highly grateful for this opportunity. The highlight of the experience was working on a holiday at school. We spent hours working on the wall. However one thing I would change in the activity if I did it again was providing more time. There are a lot of changes/additions that we could make in our painting if only we were given a few extra days. Overall, I had a lot of fun and learnt a lot of new skills which I am planning to apply in the future.
