2 day trek – Igatpuri

The two-day trekking program to Igatpuri was an interesting CAS (Creativity, Action, and Service) experience, which was filled with many fun activities that required risk-taking skills and showed physical endurance. The trek was not physical alone but also an experience of fullness because every step was a challenge; it was delightful to observe the greenland flat in the distance and the high mountains from above. (Plus, there was cleaning the dam that I noticed. Do you know how we litter the place? People tend to disregard the beautifying of the environment). Hence it was so much more to pick abandoned goods which were scattered around the dam while enjoying the surrounding scenery as well.

LO-1  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

We went trekking twice during the two-day program I took trekking to be a simple endeavor; big fat lie. The slippery edges and the acceleration of the dizzy height made the hiking trip exhausting and unabashedly frightening. Even though it was difficult for me, the excitement of the experience made the rain more beautiful and the climb more satisfying. I additionally discovered numerous of my weaknesses like the difficulty in jumping up to the steeper spots and the inability to navigate the slippery surfaces. Friends played a large role as they lent each other a helping hand to climb particular spots. On the whole, the whole procedure was partly enjoying and partly challenging for me.

LO- 2 Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

We too went to the nearby school on our trip to play with the children and have some fun for about two to three hours. The school was located in such a beautiful and breathtaking place that it was merely delightful and invigorating to be there. Nonetheless, communication barriers were experienced because the locals spoke only in Marathi which made them hard to communicate with. Fortunately, we were provided with language interpreters who could facilitate the translation from Hindi to Marathi. We played games such as dog and the bone, turned in circles, and did kabaddi. We finally learned a traditional dance that they sang and expertly performed for us. The feeling of being belonged was so evident even though we were to some extent part of the difficulties.

LO- 5 Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

As a part of our trip to Igatpuri during CAS, we put our time into service activities such as dam cleaning where we collected the garbage. This experience was the tool that demonstrated how teamwork and collaboration are the prime requirements to clean that area which really is a titan task for a solitary person. Our four-member group was then further divided into three smaller groups; each team was provided with polybags to collect and store the litter. The deconstruction of work tasks and the mutual endeavors ignited us so we managed to get done with it within the shortest time possible. The activity besides not making the task too much of a chore was very interesting and amusing at the same time. Moreover, this aspect prompted the participation of many people which was a group to activity. Hence, my trek experience in Igatpuri and dam-cleaning becoming one trip involving both an activity and a service, thus in effect a real journey of spiritual growth for me. By treating trekking as an activity, I enhanced my endurance and physical strength while on the other hand, I came to appreciate nature a lot deeper. By engaging in a dam-cleaning service, I was able to, myself, help in environmental preservation and got aware of the significance of team play to cope with mankind’s issues, such as pollution, effectively. Such practices have had a positive impact on me and I will be very active within the community service group, at the same time, I will keep myself in touch with the earth by means of nature and promote good health habits and environmental awareness.

In conclusion, my trekking and dam-cleaning experience in Igatpuri combined the elements of activity and service, creating a transformative journey. Through walking, my resilience and physical endurance grew so that I became much more aware of nature, which I was surrounded by. Through the service of dam cleaning, I helped protect the environment and understood the importance of teamwork in dealing with global problems such as pollution. These experiences have inspired me to keep pushing forward on green practices and community service, along with being closer to nature by encouraging people to live healthier and environmentally friendly lives.
