From January 25 to February 2, I participated as a member of the Mother Tongue Assembly Organizing Committee for the Gujarati language. My primary role was to host the entire event while contributing ideas to better foster cultural activities in our highly modernizing world. The goal was to creatively remind people of their roots and the significance of their mother tongue in preserving cultural identity. This experience encompassed elements of creativity, activity, and service, aligning with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity.
Learning Outcomes
LO 1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
Throughout this experience, I identified my strengths in public speaking and creativity while recognizing my weakness in time management, especially during the preparation phase. Acknowledging these aspects made me feel more self-aware and motivated to improve my planning skills. Knowing our strengths and weaknesses is vital because it helps us navigate our personal and professional growth effectively. To address my time management issues, I created a more structured timeline for tasks, which ultimately led to a smoother execution of the event.
LO 2: Demonstrate That Challenges Have Been Undertaken, Developing New Skills in the Process
One of the main challenges was coordinating various cultural performances and ensuring that they resonated with the audience. This was challenging because I had never organized such an event before, which added pressure to meet everyone’s expectations. To overcome this, I focused on clear communication and collaboration with committee members. I discovered my ability to adapt quickly and remain calm under pressure, skills that will be invaluable in my future endeavors. Undertaking this challenge boosted my confidence and highlighted the importance of embracing new experiences.
LO 3: Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
I organized myself by creating a comprehensive checklist of tasks and deadlines. While I generally consider myself an organized person, I faced difficulties in the initiating phase due to the sheer number of activities to manage. This taught me the importance of delegation and collaboration. Planning for this event was particularly challenging, but it improved my project management skills and showed me that future planning will be easier due to the lessons learned. Understanding how to plan and initiate activities is crucial for effective leadership and successful event execution.
LO 4: Show Commitment to and Perseverance in CAS Experiences
The commitment required to complete this activity was substantial. It was challenging to maintain motivation through the intense preparation period, especially when faced with unexpected obstacles. However, I realized that perseverance is essential in achieving meaningful outcomes. Committing to the event was initially daunting, but pushing through those moments of doubt ultimately made the successful execution of the assembly even more rewarding.
LO 5: Demonstrate the Skills and Recognize the Benefits of Working Collaboratively
Working with others during this activity was both rewarding and challenging. While I found collaboration to be generally easy, managing differing opinions within the committee proved difficult. I handled conflicts by encouraging open communication and compromise, which strengthened our teamwork. The importance of collaboration became evident as we successfully combined our unique ideas to create a vibrant event, showcasing the power of teamwork in achieving common goals.
LO 6: Demonstrate Engagement with Issues of Global Significance
The cultural preservation and promotion of the Gujarati language are significant globally as they highlight the importance of linguistic diversity. Engaging with these issues deepened my understanding of cultural heritage and its relevance in a globalized world. This knowledge enhances my personal growth and encourages me to be more conscious of global issues and their local implications.
LO 7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
The ethical considerations during this activity revolved around cultural representation and inclusivity. I felt strongly about ensuring that the assembly represented diverse voices within the Gujarati community. Initially, my views centered on promoting cultural pride, but after discussions with committee members, I realized the importance of inclusivity. This shift in perspective has encouraged me to advocate for broader representation in future events.
Final Takeaway
Throughout this experience, I developed characteristics of being a communicator and a risk-taker. The connection between my subjects and this CAS experience lies in the application of critical thinking and creativity to solve real-world problems, such as cultural disconnection in a modern context. The assembly benefited the community by fostering cultural pride and awareness, with the highlight for me being the overwhelming positive response from attendees.
This activity challenged my perspectives, particularly regarding the value of linguistic heritage in modern society. The skills I gained, including public speaking and event management, will aid me in future community initiatives. While I achieved a sense of success through the event’s positive impact, the journey was equally enjoyable and fulfilling. If I were to repeat this activity, I would improve my time management and aim for an even broader representation of voices in future assemblies.
In applying my learning from this activity, I aspire to contribute further to society by organizing more cultural events and advocating for the preservation of linguistic diversity. This CAS experience has solidified my commitment to understanding and embracing cultural roots while promoting them in our rapidly modernizing world.
Note :- Unfortunately, I do not have the exact evidence of my participation in the Mother Tongue Assembly with my photo, as the teacher in charge lost all the photos from the event. As a result, I am attaching a general image from the event itself to provide context for my involvement. Despite the lack of personal photographic evidence, I assure you that I actively participated in this experience, contributing to the success of the assembly as a host.
