Global odyssey

As part of my CAS experience, I participated in the Global Odyssey business fair at Fountainhead School, where I collaborated with a group to open a stall featuring fun games and activities. Our aim was to create an engaging and enjoyable experience for the attendees while learning essential business skills. This experience allowed me to develop social and organizational skills and introduced me to the challenges and rewards of running a small-scale business venture.

LO1:

Through this event, I discovered my strengths in creativity and communication. Designing and presenting our games allowed me to tap into my innovative thinking and showcase unique ideas. However, I also realized that I could improve my negotiation skills and handling finances, both essential components of running a business. This experience highlighted areas where I could further refine my skills, which will be valuable in future business or organizational activities.

LO2:

Setting up and managing a stall at the fair came with its challenges, especially since it was my first experience with such a venture. Selling our activities to students and maintaining an appealing setup required both social and marketing skills. By engaging in these new challenges, I learned how to pitch ideas confidently, adjust pricing strategies, and make our games more attractive to potential participants. Developing these skills was a significant step forward in my personal and business growth.

LO3:

Planning the stall with my group required thorough organization and effective teamwork. We had to brainstorm and organize each aspect, from setting up the games to establishing a rotation schedule for our responsibilities. Working together to make this plan ensured the event ran smoothly and allowed us to engage attendees consistently, creating a memorable and well-organized experience. This taught me the value of planning and preparation in successfully executing any project.

LO5:

Collaboration was key to our success at the fair. We worked together to assign tasks, brainstorm game ideas, and manage the logistics of running the stall. Each person contributed different skills, and by combining our strengths, we created a dynamic and appealing booth. This experience emphasized how essential teamwork is in accomplishing shared goals, as well as the importance of supporting one another in stressful situations.

LO7:

Throughout the event, we were mindful of ethical considerations, such as fair pricing and treating each participant with respect and honesty. Ensuring a positive experience for everyone meant being transparent about the rules, fair in pricing, and respectful to attendees. This ethical approach not only made the event enjoyable for participants but also reinforced the importance of integrity and fairness in business.

Participating in the Global Odyssey business fair was a valuable experience that taught me a variety of skills. I gained confidence in my communication and business abilities, developed a strong sense of organization and teamwork, and learned the importance of ethical considerations in providing a positive experience. The event helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I felt a deep sense of fulfillment seeing our hard work come to life and successfully engaging our audience.
