Our two-day trek was a school-organized trip to Igatpuri, where we participated in several trekking activities, including both long and short treks. We also spent time interacting with students at a local school and dedicated a day to community service by cleaning up trash near a dam.
LO1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth
During the trip, I recognized my strength in stamina, which enabled me to complete the treks comfortably and manage my time effectively, particularly when preparing games for the local school students. However, I identified time management as an area for improvement, as better organization could have enhanced my efficiency in handling tasks. Interacting with underprivileged students required adaptability and effective communication, which helped me understand the importance of resilience in unfamiliar situations. Additionally, I discovered leadership qualities during group activities, which I can refine and apply to future team projects.
LO4: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experiences
The dam cleanup was a particularly challenging yet rewarding part of the experience, requiring sustained effort and perseverance. The task involved climbing numerous stairs and navigating difficult terrain while collecting and carrying bags of trash. This activity taught me the importance of staying focused on environmental sustainability and seeing a task through despite physical challenges. The commitment to cleaning the area not only contributed to the local environment but also emphasized the value of dedication, showing how consistent effort can lead to meaningful and positive outcomes.
LO7: Recognize and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions
Ethical awareness was a key element of this experience, particularly in ensuring our actions were respectful and culturally sensitive. Before engaging in activities like interacting with the villagers or cleaning the dam, we took time to understand local cultural norms and traditions to avoid causing any unintentional harm or offense. For instance, while communicating with villagers, we approached them with respect, being mindful of their lifestyle and customs, ensuring our actions aligned with their values and needs.
