Rock climbing : CAS Experience – Activity

Rock climbing sessions were organized by the school during our early in once a cycle.Rock climbing is one of the sports which I never really learnt but as an part of my CAS experience I chosen to participate in for the first time.By stepping outside of my comfort zone and challenging my physical abilities,I set a goal for myself to touch the top of the wall during the rock climbing sessions.Prior to beginning our rock climbing, we warmed ourselves up with stretches and jogging. In our first session, we were completely unaware about how to do this and what kind of safety measures need to be taken, however from how to put and secure the harness to how to grip and climb on the wall, we learned a lot about rock climbing. For the first two sessions we climbed on a regular wall but during our last two sessions we climbed on a slightly sloped wall. The sloped wall was pretty hard to climb but I did my best during all the four sessions. This sport demands a lot of mental toughness in addition to physical strength. There were times when I wanted to give up and take off the harness, but I did my best to maintain my composure and push myself to keep trying. I made sure to pay close attention to the instructions given by sir.

L1.Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

It takes a lot of hand strength to do rock climbing, therefore after doing this, I’ve realized that it’s a perfect opportunity for me to strengthen my body. I’ve learned how important it is to engage in this type of activity to strengthen physical strength.Through the session while doing climbing the one thing I did to climb up was carefully listened to sir’s instructions which helped me to raise my game and become a better participant.

L2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Since the sessions were early in,it was quite a task to wake up early in the morning and come for the sessions. The sport pushed me to step outside of my comfort zone, which was challenging, and I gained new rock climbing skills as well as increased strength and awareness.

L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

Before climbing the wall, I was pretty scared and afraid because if I wasn’t able to climb the wall it would somewhat feel demotivated by it, but I was still committed to doing the task at hand. I learned how to climb the wall and accomplished a whole new skill at the same time by being persistent.
