HDP AS is a school program that provides a varied range of creative activities to choose from, like cooking, visual arts, clubs, and more. I chose Band, and under that, Vocals. I have always liked singing, and this year I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and try new things.
Learning Outcomes :
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Throughout the year, I analyzed my strengths and areas for growth. I realized that I was good at Singing and was able to sing in both languages : English and Hindi. Whereas, my area for growth was to be less shy.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Since I only practice vocals, I did not know how to play any instrument. The biggest challenge I took was to learn a new instrument, which was the keyboard. It was a challenge because this was completely new. I had a hard time adjusting to the keys, but slowly and gradually, I was able to play small rhymes and tunes. This helped me develop new skills, which was learning a new instrument.
LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Throughout the year in Band, especially in the Vocals section, I remained committed despite the challenges of overcoming stage fright and improving my voice control. Consistently attending practice sessions and pushing myself to perform in front of an audience helped me build my confidence. There were moments when I felt shy or uncertain, but my perseverance allowed me to gradually step out of my comfort zone, making notable progress in both my singing and self-confidence.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Since this was a band, I had to practice with other people as well. I had to overcome my shyness and had to collaboratively work with other members. Working as a team was very beneficial because it enhanced the quality of the songs.
Overall, this was a great experience where I got to explore new instruments, including Keyboard, Guitar, and Piano. I also developed new skills, such as social skills. It also helped me overcome my shyness and made me a better singer.
