Anand Utsav- Service

For my service experience, I performed a dance and a skit to show appreciation for all the helpers at my school. Some of the learning outcomes this experience addressed were identifying my strengths and areas for growth, undertaking new challenges, and demonstrating commitment and perseverance.

When we first started practicising this performance, I was unsure of how much I could contribute as dancing and performing in front of others is something I’m not very comfortable with. However, I realized I am creative and can help choreograph some dance moves (LO1). At first, I was only going to do the dance but then I decided to challenge myself by joining the skit also (LO2). Despite finding the rehearsals intimidating at first, I pushed myself to practice and get better each time (LO4). Near the performance date, I was feeling nervous but also proud that I stuck with it.

On the day of the show, I was afraid I might forget the steps or freeze up on stage. However, when I saw how much the helpers were enjoying the show, it gave me confidence to just have fun with it. In the end, the performance went really well and the helpers seemed genuinely appreciative of our efforts to thank them. This experience showed me that I can overcome my fears if I’m determined and that bringing joy to others through creativity is very rewarding.

Looking back, I’m glad I challenged myself outside my comfort zone. I learned new skills like dancing and working as part of a team to pull off a live performance. Most importantly, I realized one of my strengths is that I don’t give up easily even when I’m nervous. In the future, I hope to continue exploring creative ways to give back to my community through service. This activity was a valuable learning experience that addressed multiple learning outcomes for me.
