The gavel strikes, and the room falls silent. This wasn’t a scene from a courtroom drama, but the heart-pounding experience of my first Model United Nations (MUN) conference – FS MUN! As a delegate, I delved into the complex world of international relations, tackling a pressing global issue that demanded solutions on an international scale.
LO1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
MUN presented a unique opportunity for self-discovery. Researching the assigned country’s stance on the issue honed my research and information analysis skills. Formulating persuasive arguments and delivering them confidently in front of the committee pushed me outside my comfort zone, strengthening my public speaking and critical thinking abilities. However, the fast-paced environment also highlighted areas for improvement. While comfortable with research and writing, I realized the need to further refine my impromptu speaking and negotiation skills for future MUN endeavors.
LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
The preparation for FS MUN demanded dedication. Extensive research on the assigned country’s policies, understanding the intricacies of the issue at hand, and crafting well-structured position papers required consistent effort. There were moments of doubt and frustration as I grappled with unfamiliar terminology or struggled to articulate a complex point effectively. However, persevering through these challenges instilled a sense of accomplishment and a deeper appreciation for the complexities of international diplomacy.
LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
MUN is not a solitary pursuit. Building strong alliances with fellow delegates proved crucial. We collaborated on crafting resolutions, debated strategies, and provided constructive feedback on each other’s positions. This teamwork fostered open communication, enabled us to leverage diverse perspectives, and ultimately strengthen our collective impact on the committee discussions.

FSMUN was an unforgettable experience that ignited my passion for international relations and global issues. The challenges and triumphs within the committee room not only equipped me with valuable skills but also instilled a commitment to responsible global citizenship and the pursuit of peaceful solutions to complex issues.
