Duration: 11-16 December, 2023

Rural immersion trip was a trip to Sankheda wherein we explored the culture of that place and understood the day to day lives of the locals over there. It was a very unique and eye opening experience for me because looking at the hardships the people in the rural areas face truly allowed me to be grateful for everything I have.

We engaged in several different activities, each of them connected to a different learning outcome.

LO1 –  Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth 

This trip surely got me out of my comfort zone since I had to share my living space with 6 other people, along with eating whatever was made even if I didn’t like it. I also had to walk and trek for a long time which made me realize that I need to work on several areas for my personal growth such as being more patient, improving communication skills, and increasing my attention span. All these skills together, would surely help me to grow as an individual.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

We were able to get a close-up look at their everyday life through the events on the itinerary that had a rural theme. I carried a constant enthusiasm that showed my commitment to the CAS trip; whether it was challenging duties like planting seeds and milking cows in the middle of the day or just relaxing and interacting with the people, I was devoted and persevered in every activity throughout the trip. 

LO5 – 

My batchmates and I collaborated in groups to complete the tasks given to us in a number of activities such as engaging school children in fun science experiments, teaching them about sports and engaging them in games like football, kho-kho, and many more. In order to guarantee that our work was finished effectively, we separated responsibilities and assigned tasks during group activities in farming. In general, collaboration helped with most tasks and offered extra advantages. 

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance

One of the global issues I came across throughout the trip was quality education. I observed that the kids in the rural area did not receive quality education which would further impact their future lifestyle. The classrooms were extremely small, with the teachers not being as qualified as they should. Along with this, I also noticed that a lot of parents were not even ready to send their kids to school which is a huge issue.

Conclusion:

To conclude, this was an amazing experience for me since it really allowed me to grow as an individual and really understand the challenges that people all over the world face. It gave me a new perspective on life and helped me show gratitude in my day to day life for all the things and privileges I have.
