In my recent CAS experience, I participated in multiple cleanup drives around nearby lakes, ponds, and beaches specifically the dumas beach from September 17th to October 15th. The goal was to collect plastic and harmful waste, raise awareness about environmental conservation, and foster a sense of community responsibility. My involvement not only aimed to enhance local ecosystems but also to educate others about the adverse effects of pollution. Engaging in these activities aligned perfectly with my passion for sustainability and my desire to make a tangible impact on the environment.
This project encapsulated the essence of Service from CAS, as it involved planning and executing community service initiatives, physically engaging in cleanup efforts, and creatively raising awareness through various educational methods. I chose this endeavor because it resonated with my commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and Goal 14 (Life Below Water). Understanding the detrimental effects of plastic pollution on aquatic ecosystems motivated me to take action, and participating in these cleanup drives allowed me to contribute directly to a global issue.
