I have always loved animals but have never been able to take care of one. This experience requires me to feed them, clean their cages, and take care of them. I was able to interact and meet multiple different animals, learn their stories, and help them. Amongst the activities, we cut vegetables to feed to all animals, cleaned dog cages and bowls, cleaned bird cages, and even fed exotic animals including iguanas, owls, snakes, turtles, and many more.

LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

To complete this experience, we had to attend 4 shelter sessions of 2 hours each. We had to make this time out of our busy weekends. We had ton learn how to make time from our deadlines and submission and had to commit to these sessions.

LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance AND LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

The issue of global significance that we worked towards during this experience is “Life on Land.” We were helping rescue animals heal and find a good place. These rescue animals had many stories for their backgrounds all of them were a cause of human actions. This forced us to reflect on our actions and how it affects not only us but the lives around us. Even with the right intentions, our actions can sometimes be wrong affecting animals negatively. This made us reconsider the ethics of our choices and actions and how we can improve our choices and actions for the betterment of the life on land.

The skills that I developed/showcased through this experience – 

• Caring – This experience required us to care for the animals not only physically, but also to empathize with them.
• Reflective – Hearing the stories of how these animals came to the shelter pushed me to reflect over my actions and how it affects the ecosystem around me.
