I have always loved animals but never had the chance to take care of one. This experience requires me to feed them, clean their cages, and care for them. I will interact with different animals, learn their stories, and help them. Activities include cutting vegetables for feeding, cleaning dog cages and bowls, cleaning bird cages, and feeding exotic animals like iguanas, owls, snakes, and turtles.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:
To complete this experience, we need to attend four shelter sessions of two hours each. We have to make time during our busy weekends, balancing this with our deadlines and commitments.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance and LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions:
The issue of global significance we are addressing is “Life on Land.” We are helping rescue animals heal and find good homes. These animals often suffer due to human actions, making us reflect on how our choices affect other lives. Even with good intentions, our actions can sometimes harm animals. This experience makes us reconsider the ethics of our choices and how we can improve them for the betterment of life on land.
The skills that I developed/showcased through this experience:
- Caring: We need to care for the animals physically and empathize with them.
- Reflective: Hearing the stories of how these animals ended up at the shelter makes me reflect on my actions and their impact on the ecosystem.
