Band performance – Global Oddysey (Activity)

Planning and executing a band performance sounded like an easy task for me as a competent artist in the field of music but at the end it wasn’t as easy i expected it to be.This task for me was not just a CAS assignment but was an opportunity for me to gain experience,to learn new things and to get better at my hobby and improve my skills. The first day of starting the practice, preparing the flow and arranging the performances was convenient enough for me and it was an easy task because of my previous experiences and the previous knowledge in music helped me to take enough responsibility to also help and guide my peers through the planning. In this event i portrayed two aspects of the 3(creativity,activity,service) which were creativity and activity, the attribute creativity was showcased during the planning, creating the list, building up transitions, adding and remixing the songs, crearting medleys and collaborating with the instrumentalists and other singers and keeping the flow going. The second aspect activity was demonstrated throughout the practice sessions that includes individual practice and band practices, actually using the list and planning and implementing objectives and goals in real and finally the big play which was performing a live band performance in front of the audience.

LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Each and every day from planning till successfully executing the event there were moments realising my strengths and weakness, during they process there were phases where i was able to go through the obstacles and face challenges like improvising on the stage, creating a flow and a format, synchronising the compositions and making changes throughout the practice to make it sound better were instances of me recognising my strengths and the parts where i felt that i messed up or realised later was wrong like getting nervous, suddenly changing the tempo by my vocals and struggling to matching the scale with my co vocalists was where i identified my weaknesses or areas of improvement.I have thought of ways to work upon my weaknesses which includes more chorus practices with other vocalists, practising with different kind of songs with different tempo patterns and also having more jamming sessions to overcome my stage fear and nervousness.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

To achieve my end goal which is turning my hobby into my career,i will need to get better and achieve greater goals for which will need developing and polishing my skills with some real hard work, during the experience i realised that this won’t be as easy i thought it to be because a band performance needs a lot of thing and performing for 2 hours straight was a big challenge for me an especially because i was a common member from both of the bands which were performing.Playing a role of a chorus and lead guitarist along side practising and rehearsing my singing for the other band wasn’t so easy after all it took a lot of practice to learn the chords and the lyrics of the new songs in the list, not only this but setting up the composition and coordination took a lot of time and also for me personally the time was very limited as i returned from a trip just 8 days before the performance so i developed my vocals and guitars skills,my time management skills and also i pulled of the performance using the prior knowledge to improve my other skill sin order to build new ones..

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

A successful band performance cannot be achieved individually,it needs teamwork and requires collaboration and synch between all the member playing a role, during these few days i found this as a challenge especially the synchronising part because a song is build by merging different instruments and a very good timing to rhyme the instruments together alongside with vocals which was a difficult task because each and every one of us was at different skill level and some struggled while some excelled so it took quite a while for us for  succeeding in this area and finishing each song nicely.Every member contributed equally to make it a success by showing patince, dedication and seriousness throughout the days.

Learner profiles –

The learner profiles developed by me were

Communicators – This learner profile was present while in the practices where we were creating a list and helping each others to face obstacles such as synchronisation, working on the individual skills and sharing knowledge, through the end during the perorace to make in between changes we were coordinating by hand gestures and body language including expressions to give a message to instrumentalists for ending the song, starting a new song, entering the chorus, changing scales and improvising throughout.

Risk takers – for making changes in between the performances and performing in front of a huge crowd.Performing in front of others with my stage fear and nervousness was a huge deal for me and it also led to fumbling and struggling but this learner profile helped me overcome those weaknesses.

Balanced – through the practice session it was hard to maintain and create a balance between every member and  instrument, also for me balancing between two bands with different song list and practising different skills for each of the band was a difficult task and was a challenging one but i like this experience and was able to achieve a good final outcome.
