I had an exhilarating experience at the Global Odyssey event hosted at our school, where Economics and Business Management students from Grade 11 showcased their entrepreneurial skills through stalls while enjoying live band performances. As a member of the band, this event presented me with unique challenges and opportunities for growth that tested my endurance, adaptability, and musical abilities.
LO1 – Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth.
Participating in the Global Odyssey event provided me with a deeper understanding of my musical capabilities and limitations. As a primarily acoustic fingerstyle player, stepping into the role of a lead guitarist for the first time was a daunting yet rewarding experience. It required me to push beyond my comfort zone, learn new songs quickly, and improvise on the fly. Through this process, I gained valuable insights into my strengths as a musician and areas for further development, fostering a greater sense of self-awareness and confidence in my abilities.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process.
Preparing for the Global Odyssey event presented me with a series of challenges that required me to develop new skills and adapt to unfamiliar situations. Unlike previous band performances where I had months to practice with familiar band members, I had only 2-3 weeks to prepare with a completely new ensemble. This forced me to quickly establish rapport with my bandmates, communicate effectively, and collaborate to deliver a cohesive performance. Additionally, performing for a continuous 1 hour and 15 minutes tested my endurance and stamina, pushing me to improve my physical and mental resilience as a musician.
LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Collaboration was essential to the success of our band performance at the Global Odyssey event. Despite our limited rehearsal time, my bandmates and I worked together tirelessly to learn dozens of new songs, synchronize our playing, and deliver a memorable performance. As the lead guitarist, I had to communicate effectively with the rest of the band, adapt to their playing styles, and support them in creating a cohesive sound. Through this collaborative effort, we not only entertained the audience but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and unity among ourselves, demonstrating the transformative power of teamwork in achieving our goals.
