Global Odyssey Project Accounts Team Leader

Global Odyssey is one of the most significant events at FS, organized by the IBDP Business Management students. The event is packed with fun, food, and entertainment. I took on the role of the leader of the accounting team, responsible for managing the event’s budget, tracking expenses, and ensuring that all financial aspects were handled efficiently.

LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process

As the leader of the accounting team, I was responsible for managing the event’s finances, which required a significant time commitment. Initially, balancing this role with my studies and another major event, the Grade 12 Farewell, proved challenging. I had to carefully plan my time to meet deadlines for both events. I developed my time management skills by dedicating specific hours for studying at home and coming to school early for Farewell dance practice. This experience strengthened my ability to juggle multiple responsibilities while staying organized and focused on meeting financial deadlines.

LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience

My strong interest in finance and business made me eager to lead the accounting team when Global Odyssey was introduced. As the leader, I initiated the planning process by setting up a system to track expenses and allocate funds based on the needs of different teams. We were briefed on the event’s overall budget, and I worked with my team to ensure that we maintained financial control while also providing flexibility for last-minute expenses. Managing the event’s budget was challenging, but we successfully balanced the needs of each department while staying within the allocated budget. This required careful coordination with the other teams and continuous adjustments as the event took shape.

LO4 – Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences

With the Grade 12 Farewell and Global Odyssey happening around the same time, I had to manage my time and commitments efficiently. Leading the accounting team for Global Odyssey and being actively involved in the Farewell event required dedication. To ensure I could meet the demands of both events, I started coming to school early, using that time to finalize the Farewell details and later focusing on managing Global Odyssey’s finances. This perseverance allowed me to remain committed to both events, ensuring neither one was compromised.

LO5 – Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively

Leading the accounting team emphasized the importance of collaboration, as I worked closely with the event’s organizing committee, vendors, and the décor team to ensure all expenses were accurately tracked. I coordinated with each department to understand their financial needs and to ensure that the funds were distributed efficiently. My team and I regularly updated the event leaders on our budgetary status, and we adapted as unexpected expenses arose. By working together, we ensured the event stayed within budget while meeting all its objectives. This collaborative effort was crucial to the success of Global Odyssey, demonstrating how teamwork can lead to smooth and effective event management.
