Calisthenics Club

I have been doing calisthenics for the past 2 years. It genuinely showed me results when I compared 2 images, one from when I started it and one after a time period of 6 months. It consists of several functional movements that helped me in physical movements that occur in my day-to-day life. Additionally, every calisthenics movement helped me push past my limits, because of which it even helped me to maintain a good mental health. In a time period of 2 years, my physical and mental health exceeded my expectations. Noticing such changes and the lifestyle of this new generation, I felt that my juniors must be exposed to calisthenics. One additional benefit that it provides is that many parents won’t allow their children to lift weight so calisthenics eliminates that issue. Therefore, I decided to open a calisthenics club for students of grade 9 and 10. This calisthenics club helped me develop the following LOs (Learning outcomes).

LO1: Identify your own strengths and develop areas for personal growth

While executing the planning part to start the calisthenics club, I realized my strengths in the situation. I initially released it when I was making calisthenics routines for the students. As I had been doing calisthenics for 2 years, I had an idea of all the exercises that beginners would need to do. I would also consider communication skills as my strength as I was able to efficiently communicate with all the authorities I needed to visit to initiate this club. However, I realized that there were two main areas in which I needed personal growth. The issue that arose was that even though nearly 20 students were expected to attend the club, only 6-7 were doing so. Despite several reminders that they were not attending the club, I realized that I needed to come up with an appropriate approach so that everyone attended the club.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS event

As soon as I thought of initiating a club, I immediately realized that this was something that would require a lot of planning. Firstly, I approached the required authorities and seeked their permissions for the club. As per their demand, I approached a fitness coach as the supervisor of my club. I also filled the requirements in the google sheet that was shared by the authorities. After I got the approval for my club, I designed a google form to inform students of grade 7,8,9, and 10 about my club. After I got 76 responses for the same which exceeded the maximum capacity of 25 students, I approached the authorities to make further decisions. They suggested that I prioritize students of grade 9 and 10 which had nearly 25 students. I knew that I could not handle 25 students alone by myself so I approached my friend who joined in as well. Once the students were finalized we even welcomed the few teachers who were interested in it.

LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognise the benefits of working collaboratively:

As mentioned earlier, there were 25 students so I definitely needed a partner to help manage so many students. My friend and I collaboratively executed the club in the early-in. The benefits of working were quite evidently visible as we could cater to many students and help them with the exercises at the same time. Due to efficient work from both of us we never missed out on sending daily reminders to attend the club without fail.
