Global Odyessy

Global Odyssey is a student-led event for students of Economics and Business Management. Global Odyssey had several departments such as Fun, Food, Fashion, etc. Along with two of my friends, I was allocated as the leader of the Fun department. I was in incharge to allocating students’ fun in their respective groups and approving the activities they planned. Apart from being the leaders, the team of leaders also handled a stall in the fun department. From the start till the end of this event, I was exposed to some useful learning outcomes.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process:

This was one of the first times I had to manage an event, so I was obviously not the best at it. The biggest problem arises when I am totally confused about where to start. We eventually started with allocating people to their respective groups and verifying their planned activities to make sure they are appropriate for the event or not. Another problem arises when students in the fun department were constantly coming to us with their issue of not being in the same group as their friends. This helped us with problem-solving skills which helped us resolve the problem by convincing our colleagues so that we could get back to work as soon as possible.

LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and plan a CAS experience

We had enrolled our names for being group leaders but we had no expectations of getting selected, but luckily we did get selected. After deciding where to start from, we initiated by making a google form so that we could allocate students and their activities in an organized manner. Once, every group decided their activities, we verified them and suggested certain changes that were to be made. As we finalized activities and logos of each group, we reported it to the higher authorities so that the needed resources would be available to each group on the final day and nothing would go wrong. We also had to open our own stall as leaders so we brainstormed upon ideas and came up with 2 activities. As soon as we did that we divided roles and responsibilities of bringing resources and managing visitors on the final day. On the final day we took chances of handling our stall and also managing our department so that both things could happen simultaneously and smoothly.

To conclude, an event like a global odyssey was a very meaningful event for me as it gave me the experience of being a leader and managing things. It also helped me with learning new skills like decision making and problem solving. Finally, it helped me to gain experience of managing an event and putting the needful efforts to make it successful.
