For my cas project, I decided to join and initiate delivery of information regarding cyber safety and its relevant topics to the students of grade 7,8,9, and 10. This project was within the school premises and was covered with the help of my teammates.
LO1 : Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Reflecting on my experience, I recognized the importance of identifying my own strengths and areas for growth. When tasked with delivering a presentation on cyber safety to a large audience of grades 7,8,9 and 10 , I was confronted with the challenge of speaking confidently, especially as an introvert. There had always been a fear of judgment that killed my confidence. This highlighted a clear area for growth, pushing me to develop my public speaking skills and improve my confidence in such settings. However, initially this fear was very severe, but after cyber safety I can proudly say it has gone down a lot. On the other hand, I found strength in my ability to thoroughly research the topic and draw upon my prior knowledge before creating the presentation. This enabled me to create an informative PowerPoint
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills.
We encountered various challenges that ultimately facilitated the development of new skills. Firstly, organizing these sessions within school hours meant sacrificing some of our regular slots, which posed a challenge in covering missed lessons. However, we could easily catch up on the material, demonstrating resilience and time management skills. Secondly, as these sessions were integrated across different grades, occasionally there were cancellations or combining sessions. This forced us to navigate between venues and adjust our presentation strategies based on varying audience sizes. Through these experiences, we developed the ability to remain composed in stressful situations. These challenges provided valuable opportunities for personal and professional growth, leading to adaptability in the face of adversity.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience.
In my CAS experience, I demonstrated perseverance and commitment despite encountering challenges along the way. Throughout a 15-20 day session, I found myself speaking in front of multiple grades, which presented a significant hurdle for me as an introvert. There were moments when I felt my motivation waning, but I refused to let it stop me. Instead, I remained dedicated to the cause, recognizing the importance of the message we were delivering. Additionally, fitting these sessions into the already busy schedules of each grade required careful time management and flexibility. This meant sacrificing our regular slots and catching up on missed lessons. Despite the obstacles, I persevered, ensuring that we fulfilled our commitments and delivered presentations to each audience.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Firstly, when sessions merged unexpectedly, we were forced to do on-the-spot division of tasks, the challenge would have been scary alone. However, having teammates made it considerably easier as we could quickly adapt and support each other. Additionally, encountering silent and non-interactive audiences in some grades initially lead to loss of our motivation. Yet, because of encouragement from my teammates helped to deliver engaging presentations. Moreover, working collaboratively allowed us to efficiently deliver speeches within a short timeframe. By dividing responsibilities, we minimized individual workload, ensuring each task was completed effectively.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance and LO7 – Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions.
Engaging with issues of global significance involves understanding and addressing topics that impact people worldwide. In our project, we focused on cyber safety, a matter of considerable global importance. Delving deeper, we explored issues like cyberbullying and its consequences, which are also prevalent worldwide. Considering the ethics of our choices, we believed it was essential to educate our classmates about cyber safety because it’s a serious matter affecting people everywhere. Furthermore, we tackled the sensitive issue of how friends can sometimes be the cause of cyberbullying, emphasizing the importance of ethical decision-making in our interactions.
After my cas project, I could proudly say that my perspectives changed by a huge amount. I used to fear judgment and had a lack of confidence when it came to public speaking. Due to this cas project, I was able to give myself a chance to step out of my comfort zone. After it i realized that, it was all in my head and no one really cares as much as i thought about any embarrassing mistake i made or anything in general.
LO3 – Demonstrate How to Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience
Organizing the Cyber Safety project required detailed planning to coordinate sessions for multiple grades while balancing academic schedules. I contributed by creating an engaging presentation and collaborating with teammates to divide responsibilities. Planning was particularly challenging due to scheduling conflicts and last-minute adjustments, but initiating the sessions became smoother thanks to thorough preparation. This experience helped me refine my organizational skills, adaptability, and ability to communicate effectively, ensuring the project ran successfully despite obstacles.
