LO 1,2,3,4,5
As part of my CAS project, I had the privilege to help organize an exciting event called Night Out. This event allowed 11th and 12th graders to spend a night at school, filled with various activities like a relay race, a murder mystery, and sports tournaments. Our team’s main responsibility was to ensure everything ran smoothly and come up with activities
LO 1: Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
As by that time I was new to the country and language, I new that I won’t be able to control everything. I had to evaluate how could I be helpful to the team to work efficiently. Therefore, after careful consideration I decided that Diksha should communicate with other volunteers while me with Darsh worked on Murder Mystery. Also, being from other cultural background, I could give fresh ideas for activities for relay race.
LO 2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process
This project marked my first experience as a leader in such a significant event, and it pushed me out of my comfort zone in several ways. I learned essential leadership skills, particularly in managing time, allocating resources, and coordinating with multiple team members. The responsibility of ensuring everything ran smoothly helped me develop my organizational skills and emphasized the importance of clear communication in managing a group
LO 3: Initiating and Planning a CAS Experience
Planning the “Night Out” event required extensive foresight and coordination from the very beginning. We had to collaborate with the school administration to pitch our concept and gain approval, which was a valuable lesson in presenting ideas effectively. Once we had approval, we moved on to meticulously planning the logistics of the event, ensuring that each activity had its allotted time and that all events were balanced in terms of schedule and resources.
LO 4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences
Throughout the planning process, we encountered numerous challenges, such as tight deadlines and last-minute changes in the schedule. Despite these obstacles, we remained committed to delivering a successful event. We addressed time constraints by communicating regularly with the volunteers and the administration, ensuring that everyone was aligned with the event’s goals.
LO 5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively
Effective resource management, particularly in terms of people, was central to the event’s success. We maintained continuous communication within our team and with the school administration. Regular team meetings helped keep everyone informed and accountable for their tasks. This collaborative approach minimized misunderstandings and allowed us to align quickly on any adjustments. Working together, we were able to delegate responsibilities efficiently, which ultimately led to a smoother execution of the event.
Conclusion
Organizing this event was a wonderful and new experience. Overall, the event not only deepened my understanding of what it takes to lead and organize a successful project but also gave me confidence in my ability to handle complex challenges. It taught me the importance of adaptability, perseverance, and collaboration, and these lessons will undoubtedly serve me well in future endeavors.
