CAS project (Organising a football tournament)

As part of my CAS project, I organised a football tournament to raise funds for a good cause. This project aligned perfectly with my CAS goals, as it allowed me to engage in community service, develop leadership skills, and promote physical activity.

LO 1: Identity own strengths and develop areas of growth:

This project allowed me to recognize my strengths in leadership, organization, and communication. I was able to effectively delegate the tasks, manage deadlines, and communicate with my friends and teachers. However, I also identify areas for improvement, such as time-management and conflict resolution. I learned importance of setting clear expectations and being flexible to accommodate unforeseen challenges.

LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Organizing a football tournament presented several challenges, including securing a venue, recruiting participants, and managing finances. I had to overcome obstacles such as limited resources and unexpected changes in plans. Through these challenges, I developed new skills in problem-solving, adaptability, and resourcefulness. I learned to think critically and find creative solutions to overcome difficulties.

LO3: Initiate and plan a CAS experience

I took the initiative to conceptualize and plan the football tournament. This involved researching potential charities, setting goals, and developing a detailed timeline. I had to coordinate with various parties, including the school administration, local businesses, and potential participants. This experience helped me develop my planning and organizational skills, as well as my ability to work independently and take ownership of my projects.

LO4: Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

The process of organizing the tournament was not without its setbacks and disappointments. There were times when I felt overwhelmed and doubted my ability to succeed. However, I persevered through these challenges and remained committed to my goal of raising funds for the charity. This experience taught me the importance of resilience and the value of seeing projects through to completion, even in the face of adversity.

LO5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

The success of the football tournament was largely due to the collaborative efforts of many individuals. I worked closely with my peers, teachers, and community members to ensure that the event was well-organized and enjoyable for all participants. Through this collaboration, I learned the importance of teamwork, communication, and respect for different perspectives. I also experienced the benefits of working together towards a common goal and the satisfaction of achieving something greater than myself.

LO6: Engagement with issues of global significance

While the football tournament was a local event, it had the potential to make a significant impact on the lives of those in need. By raising funds for a charity, I was able to contribute to addressing issues of global significance, such as poverty and inequality. This experience helped me develop a greater awareness of the interconnectedness of communities and the importance of social responsibility.

LO7: Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions

Throughout the planning and execution of the football tournament, I had to make various decisions that had ethical implications. For example, I had to consider the fairness of the competition, the safety of the participants, and the transparency of the fundraising process. This experience helped me develop a sense of ethical awareness and the ability to make informed decisions that were aligned with my values and the needs of others.

Conclusion

The football tournament was a valuable learning experience that allowed me to develop a variety of skills and gain a deeper understanding of the world around me. Through this project, I was able to contribute to a worthy cause, foster a sense of community, and grow as an individual. I am grateful for the opportunity to have been involved in such a meaningful experience.
