Community clean up drive in this experience I did pond cleaning for 2 drives and river front cleaning for the other 2 drives. In total I completed 4 drives which taught me a lots of things and I enjoyed the experience a lot. I picked up waste and submitted that to the Eco vision organization.
LO6 – Engagement with issues of global significance
While the river front cleaning the global issue that I catered was waste pollution as while picking up the waste we came across lots of plastic and other harmful waste which ends up in the river water and pollutes it afterwards which is then consumed by the life on earth. By cleaning the ponds I helped the ecosystem as the a unwanted plant used to grow on the surface of the water that use to decrease the level of oxygen in the area hence decreasing the number of birds around which gradually was harming the ecosystem so we removed those unwanted plants from the ponds.
LO4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience
For the clean up drive we had to come frequently for early – ins and miss the initial 2 slots of the day. Missing 2 slots and then getting a backup of the things taught in those slots and doing self studying for those topics was challenging and coming early in for the drive was also challenging for me as I had to adjust my routine as per the drive. Even after these challenges I was able to complete 4 drives successfully.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
I was doing this cleaning with other fellow students who had opted for this clean up drive. For pond cleaning we had to go inside the pond and clean so 3 people from the group went inside and the others were cleaning from outside using the tools given. For beach cleaning we were divided into 2 groups one collecting plastic and other collecting waste but we helped each other group by informing them where plastic and waste was available. We divided ourselves in peers and targeted to clean a particular area which helped us in being effective and cleaning fast. This showed me how team work can make you effective sometimes and also make complex tasks easier for us.
LO7 – Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions
In school during MYP through service as action we have been taught to work for the environment and their negative impacts on humanity. We also have been taught the interconnectedness between environment and humanity which provoked me on participating in this experience and helping in correcting the environmental issues. If I get time from my schedule I would surely continue in participating in this clean up drive until the end of the drive.
