Global odyssey, being one of the biggest events in FS it all started and ended with a thrill. I was a part of the decor team for this event because art is something that I am passionated about the most. Decor is one of the most important aspect of an event because aesthetics of an event is what attracts the audience so we had to ensure that the decorations of this event was the best.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
I have very little experience with event management, and the Grade 11 students organized and initiated the entire Global Odyssey event. In addition to creating the decorations, we also had to adhere them independently to the venue. After that, we had to assist the stalls with their management and decoration, which was quite chaotic because of the limited supply of electricity in each stall. Even after facing all of these challenges, I really enjoyed the journey because I was able to learn event management skills which will surely help me in future.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
The planning of global odyssey started in our BM slots after the briefing about what this event actually is. I knew right away following the briefing that I wanted to join the decor team since I want to work in the arts and I could utilise my art skills to help with the event’s decor. Our team leader gave us instructions on the event’s theme and the design of the decorations. I supported my team by offering suggestions on how we could use the materials to create decorations that would go well with the theme. We utilized our BM slots in making the decorations. After all of the decorations were made, we started sticking them on the venue by coming early to school. I helped some of the stalls in their decorations so that their stalls look better and they can attract more customers.
LO5- Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively.
Decor team for this event consisted many students and we had to work collaboratively so that all of the decorations can be made properly. Only 1 batch could work on the decorations at a time due to the division of our BM slots into 2 batches, therefore effective communication was essential to achieving the idea and concept for the decorations. Working collaboratively was also achieved while sticking the decorations because all of the decorations had to be sticked before the start of the event. To ensure that the event began on schedule and the decorations looked excellent, we divided up the work and gave each person responsibility for decorating a specific area of the venue which showed the importance and contribution of working collaboratively.
