The community clean-up drive was one of the most difficult CAS experiences for me because I disliked cleaning up waste. Our school organized this cleanup drive, and we were all asked to clean up public places throughout our city. We were all called in early and asked to get up early for this activity, after which we all went to clean up sites for two hours. It was an extremely hardworking activity. Even though I didn’t liked this CAS experience at all but still I got some learnings from this experience.
LO4- Show perseverance and commitment in a CAS experience.
As I mentioned before, community clean up wasn’t a easy task for me, it. Despite challenges such as cold weather, fatigue, and internal procrastination, I remained committed to seeing the clean-up drive through to completion. Even while doing my work there were challenges that I faced like- hard to reach areas, stinking location and etc. Even I was injured during one of the sessions but still I persisted in my efforts and refused to give up until the job was completed. I approached the clean-up drive with a strong sense of dedication and responsibility, knowing how important it was to contribute to the health of our environment and community. Throughout the cleanup, I remained focused and engaged, consistently giving my best effort and staying true to my commitment to making a positive difference.
LO6- Engagement with issues of global significance
The cleanup drive includes global environmental difficulties such as pollution and waste management, which have an impact on ecosystems around the world. By actively engaging in the clean-up, I am contributing to the larger fight to prevent environmental degradation, recognising the global importance of conserving natural resources and minimising the effects of climate change. Even enhancing the cleanliness of our local surroundings through a clean-up campaign benefits community health and well-being, which are linked to global public health challenges. The clean-up efforts are in line with numerous United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Goal 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and Goal 13.
[LO7] – Community cleanup drive is something which made me realize the repercussions of acting carelessly. Witnessing the litter and pollution in various places convinced me of the fact that the sum of our choices determines the quality of the environments. This made me appreciate the awareness of the effects of littering and the need for individuals to take responsibility of the environment. It was a crucial lesson that the smallest things we do have consequences and that picking up the garbage was not only about the earth but about people and what they wanted for their community. Over the years, it has become less and less possible to avoid making a moral decision in any process.

By volunteering for such events, I proved my readiness to venture outside of their comfort zones and take on new tasks for the greater welfare of the community.

To conclude, participating in a community clean-up campaign provided me an actual opportunity to connect with global issues by tackling environmental challenges, boosting community well-being, raising awareness, and helping to reach global sustainability goals. My participation in the community clean-up effort displayed persistence and commitment in action, showing my desire to overcome obstacles and remain motivated to serving people and the environment through my CAS activities.
