As part of my community service requirement, I oversaw the football program as part of a community service project. Children from disadvantaged schools spent a month coming to our school on the weekends. In order to keep the activity entertaining and interesting, I served as a leader and mentored other volunteers while we taught these kids the fundamentals of football.

Learning outcome 1: Identify Own Strengths and Develop Areas for Growth

I considered my talents as a coach and football player as I got ready for this tournament. I realized how important my interpersonal skills and communication were. But I also recognized that I needed to practice being patient when teaching new skills to students who had different levels of experience. I was able to modify my teaching strategies to ensure that everyone felt supported and included because to this self-awareness.

Learning outcome 3: Initiate and Plan a CAS Experience

The football practices were exhilarating and difficult to plan. I started the program by working with the teachers and assembling the materials we would need. I created a number of exercises and games to promote cooperation and teamwork while teaching basic skills. Creating a friendly atmosphere where all students could learn and enjoy themselves was my aim.

Learning outcome 2: Show Perseverance and Commitment in CAS Experience

I showed tenacity and dedication on the day of the event to ensure that everyone had an unforgettable time. The language barrier was one of the biggest obstacles I had to overcome because I didn’t speak Gujarati well and many of the kids did. I had trouble communicating at first and frequently needed assistance from others. But when I went to more sessions, I eventually picked up enough Gujarati to be able to communicate with the kids and properly express my feelings. I overcame these challenges because I was determined to make sure every kid had a good day.

Learning outcome 4: Demonstrate Skills and Benefits of Working Collaboratively

During our football sessions, cooperation was essential. I collaborated closely with other students who supported and led initiatives. Together, we established a setting where people could benefit from one another’s knowledge. I was able to observe firsthand how collaboration improves learning and fosters friendships by encouraging teamwork among the youngsters. On the field, the excitement of collaborating to accomplish a shared objective was palpable.

Learning outcome 6: Engagement with Issues of Global Significance

Through this experience, I was also able to discuss more general concerns about our community’s youth’s access to sports and opportunities. I became aware that the kids seldom ever had the opportunity to engage in such activities. It was essential to provide kids the chance to play and gain new knowledge. I understood that it was crucial to encourage these kids’ development since they have the capacity to accomplish anything in the future.

Learning outcome 7: Recognise and Consider the Ethics of Choices and Actions

I thought about the moral ramifications of my decisions as I planned and carried out my project. It was crucial to make sure that every student, regardless of ability level, felt appreciated and included. I deliberately tried to encourage good attitudes and sportsmanship, cultivating kindness and respect both on and off the field. Everyone was able to participate and learn in a safe environment because to the emphasis on ethics.

Conclusion

All in all, it was a fulfilling experience to oversee the football practices for kids from disadvantaged schools. I started and organized a worthwhile CAS experience, recognized my areas of strength and improvement, and showed tenacity and teamwork. Above all, I thought about the moral implications of my conduct and interacted with key societal concerns. This project not only improved my leadership abilities but also broadened my perspective on the positive effects that service can have on our communities. In the future, I hope to have more chances to use sports to uplift and encourage people.
