As part of this annuallly planned event, kids from local government schools were invited to FS on weekends to learn skills. Football, basketball, frisbee, arts and crafts, ICT, science project, and dance were the skillsets we as students provided to the youngsters. Based on my talents and knowledge, I decided to help educate these students how to dance. We taught them four dances over the course of three weekends, along with the rest of our dance team. We also learned a lot about the dancing forms they employ at school and about their daily lives.

The workshop lasted six days, spread over three weekends. It was tough to be present and work with children every weekend, especially when we were busy with schoolwork, extracurricular activities, and personal interests. However, after this course, I felt more organised since it helped me plan and make better use of my time. It was difficult to maintain consistency with the workshop and provide the same quality of information to the youngsters each time. What kept me going was the passion for dance and the love of interacting with and getting to know these kids.

LO5(Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively)
Throughout the teaching process, we collaborated as a group of students, teachers, and support staff. Working as a team makes things easier because we can split our tasks and combine our expertise to make the most use of our time, as well as the children’s. Dividing assignments and assisting different groups of students contributed significantly to the students’ positive learning experiences. Working in small groups during the course also allowed us to interact with different sets of students one by one while ensuring that the scheduled agenda was finished on time.

All in all, I learned a lot from this experience; it allowed me to engage with a large number of students while also developing many of the qualities listed above. If given the chance, I would gladly volunteer for anything like this again. Overall, I learned to be balanced and open minded through this event.
