As part of my IB Creativity component, I had the opportunity to contribute as a writer to my school’s newspaper, Corridors. This experience allowed me to explore my creative abilities while also engaging with real-world communication and journalism. As one of the many writers under the editorial team, I was tasked with writing articles that reflected the school’s vibrant culture, current events, and student life. This not only enhanced my writing skills but also gave me an understanding of the intricacies of collaborative work in publishing.

One of the key learning outcomes I achieved through this experience was LO2: Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills in the process. Writing for a public audience required me to step out of my comfort zone. I had to consider how to convey information in an engaging yet professional manner while working under deadlines. This sharpened my time management and editing skills, as every article required refinement before publication. I also developed better communication skills by receiving constructive feedback from senior editors and peers, which improved the quality of my writing over time.

I also worked towards LO4: Show commitment to and perseverance in CAS experiences. Consistently contributing to the newspaper across several issues demanded dedication and discipline. Even during weeks of academic stress, I had to commit to submitting my articles on time, showing that perseverance is essential to balancing multiple responsibilities in the IB program. It was a rewarding experience, seeing my work come to life in print, knowing it would reach the eyes of my fellow students.

Another key learning outcome achieved was LO5: Demonstrate the skills and recognize the benefits of working collaboratively. As a writer working alongside a team of editors, I quickly learned the importance of cooperation. My individual articles were part of a larger publication, so it was essential to communicate effectively with the editorial team. Working with different perspectives enriched my understanding of teamwork and helped me see how collaboration is crucial in producing a cohesive final product.

In conclusion, my involvement in Corridors has not only enhanced my creativity but also helped me embody the IB Learner Profile. I grew as a Communicator, sharing my ideas clearly and creatively through writing. I also became more Balanced, managing my academic workload alongside my commitment to the newspaper. Ultimately, this CAS experience has taught me valuable lessons in both self-expression and teamwork, aligning perfectly with the IB’s goal of developing well-rounded, engaged learners
