Rock Climbing

For the past few weeks, I have been coming out of my comfort zone and trying something completely new as a rock-climbing activity. This whole experience has been a rollercoaster of emotions, but overall, it’s been an incredibly new skill which I have gained. Today, I wanted to share some of the key learnings from my CAS project, which focused on developing new skills through rock climbing.

L1.Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth

Before I even strapped on the safety gears, I came to know I wasnt that strong or most. But that’s the whole point of trying something new, throughout these sessions, I discovered that I’m actually good at figuring out the best options. When facing a tricky climb, I found myself strategizing different ways to reach the top. This made me realize that even though I might not be a naturally skilled person, I can definitely use my brain to overcome such challenges.

L2. Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills

Rock climbing is easy if challenges are handled carefully, there were times when I felt completely stuck, my arms burning, getting dried out and my grip slipping. But instead of giving up, I surprised myself by pushing through the difficulty. Each time I successfully scaled a wall, it felt like a huge accomplishment. This experience definitely showed me the importance of perseverance and not giving up on something just because it’s difficult and next to impossible..

L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

This CAS project wouldn’t have been half as fun  without my amazing climbing friend, we motivated each other, celebrated each other’s victories, and even offered helpful tips when the other was struggling. Climbing with help of our friend not only made the experience more enjoyable, but it also highlighted the value of collaboration and support. We learned that by working together, we could achieve things that might have been impossible on our own and easy to do.

L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

Rock climbing isn’t just about physical strength, it’s also about mental focus and problem-solving skills as well. By working with friends, we were able to share different strategies and approaches to each climb. This definitely helped us improve our individual skills much faster than we could have if we were training alone. It goes to show that collaboration can not only make things more fun, but also lead to better results and achieve even the upcoming challenges which problem-solving strategies.
