Donate food

I had volunteered for donating food from my school to an nearby village where I served extra food provided by the school. For the continuation of this service, I donate food at least twice a week to strangers.

L4. Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience

I started off with a project to donate leftover food from my school to a nearby village, leading me to show perseverance and commitment. This was indeed a challenging experience as it constantly required coordination with the authorities of my school to ensure proper packaging and finding reliable transportation to deliver the food accordingly within the specified time. Though the process was often riddled with logistical hassle such as not being able to track the right vehicle at the right time. My perseverance paid off as I witnessed the positive impact on the village community, motivating me to continue and refine the process. This project reinforced my sense of responsibility toward reducing food waste and supporting those in need.

L5. Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively

This Service gave me an opportunity to share the leftovers donated to a nearby village with my peers. In the process, we managed to divide the tasks into food collection, packaging, and delivery clearly agreeing on these through effective communication and teamwork, key skills often termed in such a context. Apart from all that help in spreading the workload, collaboration with others would bring ideas and solutions with diverse variables that could easily smooth out the process as well as make it effective. The effectiveness has also been developed in terms of value to teamwork through our efforts, since we made a very positive impact on the community when dealing with teamwork.

L6. Engagement with issues of global significance

This CAS experience involved myself in the global issue of food waste and hunger through conducting an activity to organize leftovers from school being donated to a village nearby. Food security is one of the most common issues affecting millions of people across the globe, and one of the solutions towards addressing this issue is reducing food waste. Ensuring excess food reached those in need, I was doing my bit for the fight against hunger by promoting sustainability. The project of connecting a local action to a broader global challenge means that mindful consumption and resource management can help reduce waste and hunger on a bigger level.

L7. Recognize and consider the ethics of choices and actions

I realized and reflected on the ethical consideration to distribute the leftovers to the neighboring village. Food has to be safe and of good quality in case one would give out perishable items in order not to harm them. Being responsible enough to come up with a mode of donation that would respect their needs without exposing them to feelings of dependency. The realization of redirecting some food waste and allowing it to reach more needy recipients brought me to questions on sustainable practices and social responsibility things to which I was to be meticulous and sensitive throughout the process.
