A student led event in which the students of French ab initio come together and construct fun activities and games in order to showcase what we learned in the academic year 2023-2024. I demonstrated Creativity out of the three strands of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

Designing and running the tongue twister game posed several challenges, from selecting tongue twisters that were both fun and difficult to finding ways to make the stall engaging for participants. Since I was not fluent in French, I had to practice and research proper pronunciations to ensure that I could help guide participants. This process taught me a lot about language and communication, and I developed new skills in French pronunciation, which I had never fully focused on before. Additionally, I learned how to make a game interactive and approachable for a diverse audience with varying levels of French language skills.

Learning Outcome 3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience:

Initiating and planning the tongue twister game stall required careful thought and preparation. I had to plan the layout, design materials, and ensure that the stall was both educational and entertaining. I chose a variety of tongue twisters to suit different skill levels and created a simple reward system to motivate participants. Organizing the stall from start to finish also meant planning for materials, coordinating with the event organizers, and managing time to prepare the decorations and game. Through this process, I gained experience in event planning, learning how to manage multiple elements simultaneously while staying focused on creating a positive experience for others.

Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:

Setting up the decorations and running the game throughout the French Immersion event required sustained effort and dedication. There were moments when it was challenging to get everything in place on time, especially with last-minute changes and unforeseen issues like technical difficulties or participants having trouble with the tongue twisters. However, I stayed committed to ensuring that the stall was enjoyable and well-organized, adapting where necessary and ensuring that all participants had a great time. The perseverance I showed in troubleshooting issues and maintaining enthusiasm helped make the event a success.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:

The decoration team and stall activities were collaborative efforts, involving coordination and teamwork from all participants. As part of the decoration team, we brainstormed ideas to make the event visually appealing and aligned with the French cultural theme. Additionally, I worked with other stall operators to ensure that all stations, including mine, were organized and smoothly run. We shared ideas, helped each other out during busy moments, and provided feedback to improve each other’s setups. Through this collaboration, I learned that teamwork not only lightens the workload but also enriches the creative process by allowing us to combine ideas and resources for a more dynamic result.
