Global Odyssey is an event organized by the business management and economics team. As part of the Global Odyssey event, I joined the decoration team responsible for transforming the venue and setting the stage for an immersive experience. I demonstrated Creativity out of the three strands of CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service).

Learning Outcome 1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth:

Before joining the decoration team, I was aware of my creativity and aesthetic sense, which I had developed through previous art and design projects. However, I also realized that I needed to improve my time management and organizational skills, especially when working on a large-scale project like this. During the preparation for Global Odyssey, I identified that my strength lay in visualizing how to arrange the space to create an engaging atmosphere. At the same time, I worked on being more systematic and disciplined in my approach to meeting deadlines and delegating tasks, realizing that creativity needed structure to achieve a polished final result.

Learning Outcome 2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills:

The Global Odyssey event posed a series of challenges for me. Coordinating the decoration for different areas of the venue, keeping in mind the theme, and working within budget constraints were all new experiences. I had to learn how to source materials creatively and cost-effectively, sometimes improvising when the original plan didn’t work out. I also honed my skills in spatial design, figuring out how to maximize the visual impact of limited resources. Facing these challenges helped me become more adaptable and resourceful, developing new skills in project management and creative problem-solving.

Learning Outcome 4 – Show perseverance and commitment in CAS experience:

Creating the decorations for such a large event took considerable time and effort. There were times when it felt overwhelming, especially as the event date approached and we still had many tasks to complete. However, I remained committed to seeing the project through to completion. Working long hours, particularly during the final stages of preparation, taught me the value of perseverance. I understood that the success of the event was linked to everyone’s commitment, including my own, and this kept me motivated to push forward even during stressful moments.

Learning Outcome 5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively:

The decoration team was made up of individuals with different skills and ideas, and collaboration was essential. From brainstorming design concepts to executing them, we relied heavily on each other’s strengths. Communication played a huge role as we divided responsibilities and made decisions collectively. I learned that the success of the project was not just about individual talent but about how well we worked together, pooling our resources and supporting each other through challenges. By collaborating, we were able to create a cohesive and visually stunning event space, far exceeding what any of us could have done alone.
