FS MUN was an exciting and educational experience that pushed me outside my comfort zone. It’s a large event where students from various schools debate current issues. For FS MUN 10.0, I had the incredible opportunity to join the organizing committee, responsible for planning and decorating the entire event. This journey, from planning to execution, was unforgettable.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Organizing FS MUN had been a long-time goal. After experiencing it as a delegate, I was impressed by the smooth operation and dedicated organizing team. I decided I wanted to contribute too. When applications opened, I chose the organizing committee role. I wanted to leverage my strengths and address my weaknesses, particularly my dislike for teamwork. Through this experience, I discovered the value of collaboration and gained valuable insights from my teammates. I learned to appreciate different perspectives and the skills needed to work effectively as a team. Teamwork also proved efficient. With a large workload, we divided tasks and completed them on time. Additionally, I learned to manage my dislike of last-minute work and teammates who don’t pull their weight. I maintained composure and completed my responsibilities while offering help to others. This experience helped me understand group dynamics and overcome my weaknesses.
LO2- Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Time management was a major challenge. Given the scale of FS MUN, everything needed to be perfect, but we were short on time. We decorated venues, created posters, printed photos, and ensured everything was MUN-ready. To overcome this, my team and I put in extra hours, starting early and staying late. We even sacrificed some personal time to prioritize the MUN. This experience honed my time management and collaboration skills. We were all dedicated to making FS MUN 10.0 the best yet, and by developing these skills, we achieved that goal.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
Decor was one of my main areas of contribution. I brainstormed ideas to enhance posters, logos, and headings. I believe good decor and organization leave a lasting impression. My ideas, planning, and initiative played a significant role in the successful initiation and planning of FS MUN 10.0.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively.
Collaboration wasn’t always my forte. I preferred independent work. For FS MUN 10.0, I found myself on a team with students from different grades, some I didn’t know. Initially, I wasn’t very open to interaction. However, as we worked together, I started to appreciate the process. I saw the value in how everyone divided tasks and supported each other. It became clear that decorating such a large event couldn’t be done individually. This experience highlighted the importance and benefits of working collaboratively, a skill I actively developed throughout the project.
