Pi Day

March 14th, better known as Pi Day. It’s a global celebration of the fascinating number pi (Ï€), the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. This year, I had the opportunity to be a part of the festivities at Fountainhead School.

I decided to participate by setting up a Memes stall. Pi, with its endless string of decimal places, lends itself perfectly to the world of memes, and I knew this would be a fun way to entertain my fellow students and spread some pi cheer. I created a collection of memes that played on pi puns, mathematical references, and the nerdy humor that math lovers can truly appreciate.

The learning goals I intended to Target by participating in this experience were…

  • Learning Outcome 4: Show perseverance and Commitment in a CAS experience

Additionally, I regularly corresponded with my teachers regarding the approved ideas and any places where they might potentially need help and always volunteering to help this led to the development of Learning outcome 4 as I completed all my given tasks on time and was eager to help in others as well.

  • Learning Outcome 5: Demonstrate the skills of working collaboratively

This CAS experience enabled me to collaborate with various people including teachers regarding the meme ideas. On the day of the event I also helped other stalls with their decor and arranging resources. This led to the development of Learning Outcome 5 as I collaborated with various people during and before the event to ensure it went smoothly. Along with a stall that was demonstrating how slopes affect speed of ball, I helped in wood working and physically creating the slopes which was quite a tough process. However, the leader of the other stall also provided his appreciation for my support which significantly reduced his workload and relieved him from potential stress.

Pi day also led to the achievement of LO3 as my ideas for the memes were based from my own independent thinking and did not use the influence of any external sources such as teachers, my concept was unique within the entire event as no one had the idea of opening a stall of memes which led to the fullfillment of LO3

The event was quite significant to the school Maths Team hence it was necessary to ensure that it was enjoyed not only by the visitors but by the school faculty as well. The event went quite well with my stall being one of the best attractions with several people attending my stall and cherishing the memes and humorously complaining regarding the Bad jokes.

In summary, this CAS experience was quite beneficial as it helped me in expressing my love for Mathematics in a humorous manner that was enjoyed by other as well along with achieving 2 learning outcomes 5 and 4.
