This year, I had the exciting opportunity to both help organize and actively participate in the Garba Fest, a vibrant cultural event that brought together our school community to celebrate traditional Indian dance. This experience gave me the chance to identify my strengths, overcome challenges, plan a large event, and work collaboratively with my peers to ensure its success. It was a fulfilling CAS project that helped me grow in multiple ways, both personally and socially.
LO1 – Identify own strengths and develop areas for growth
Participating in the Garba Fest helped me identify my communication and organizational strengths, which played a crucial role in the smooth coordination of the event. My ability to lead discussions and delegate tasks helped our team stay on track. However, I realized I need to improve my time management and multitasking skills, as balancing the event’s planning with academic commitments was challenging. I also saw potential for growth in my ability to stay calm under pressure. Recognizing these areas has motivated me to practice better planning and learn techniques for handling stress effectively.
LO2 – Demonstrate that challenges have been undertaken, developing new skills
Organizing Garba Fest presented several challenges, especially in terms of managing logistics, which included coordinating schedules, arranging performers, and dealing with last-minute changes. I had to think on my feet when our sound system malfunctioned, and some performers canceled just hours before the event. These challenges taught me resilience and adaptability. I developed new skills such as quick decision-making, event coordination, and troubleshooting technical issues. Overcoming these obstacles helped me build confidence in my ability to handle unforeseen problems and showed me the value of staying composed in stressful situations.
LO3 – Initiate and plan a CAS experience
When the opportunity to volunteer for the Garba Fest came up, I eagerly stepped forward to help organize the event. As part of the planning team, I contributed to various aspects, from coordinating the audience and handling logistics to managing the event’s schedule. My role involved close collaboration with my peers and faculty, where we outlined a clear plan for the event, including budgeting, promotional activities, and organizing the venue. This experience taught me the importance of planning, teamwork, and the ability to adapt quickly, ensuring everything ran smoothly and on time for the big day.
LO5 – Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively
Collaborating with a team was essential for the success of the Garba Fest. We each took on specific roles, such as managing promotions, and setting up the venue. Our group worked effectively because we understood each other’s strengths and delegated tasks accordingly. I learned that clear communication, mutual respect, and trust are vital when working with others. Being part of a team allowed me to contribute my strengths while learning from others’ expertise. The experience emphasized the importance of teamwork and how collective effort can lead to a successful, well-executed event.
Volunteering for the Garba Fest was a deeply enriching experience that allowed me to grow in various aspects of planning, and teamwork. It gave me the opportunity to identify and strengthen my organizational skills while also addressing areas where I needed improvement, such as time management. The challenges we faced during the event helped me develop resilience and adaptability, key skills that I can apply in future endeavors. Ultimately, working collaboratively with a motivated team demonstrated how shared efforts can create a successful and meaningful event, making this CAS experience truly rewarding.
