The Global Odyssey: Analog Games in a Digital World
Learning Objective 1: Identify strengths and growth areas:
The Global Odyssey was an event buzzing with excitement, and our group was tasked with setting up a stall focused on one of three categories: food, fun, or fashion. We chose fun, opting for a stall with analog games. However, with just two people in our group, we only had the capacity for two games. The real challenge? We were surrounded by stalls offering VR, PS5, and other high-tech experiences. How could we possibly get people interested in classic, non-digital games? (Learning Objective 1: Identify strengths and growth areas)
This situation became a valuable opportunity to identify our strengths and weaknesses. On the positive side, we were much incredibly open to suggestions. For example, a teacher who visited our stall offered some immediate feedback, and we readily implemented their advice. This simple act significantly increased the number of customers we attracted. (Learning Objective 1: Identify strengths and growth areas)
Challenges and Overcoming Them (Learning Objective 2: Demonstrate challenges and new skills)
Our biggest challenge, of course, was competing with the flashier, more in-demand games like Meta Oculus (VR) and PS5. We simply couldn’t offer those experiences. Borrowing such equipment wasn’t an option either, as many people were hesitant to lend something so valuable that would be used by a large number of people.
So, how did we overcome this obstacle? Here are some strategies we used:
So we offered those non digital more different games such as Cup-pong where the people have to throw those ping-pong balls into any of those glasses and second was mini-basketball where people had to aim for throwing that ball into any one of those glasses there inside it where they would score the no. of points written on the board for each of those glasses for it.
Earlier, we just showed the audiences the games that we offered but hardly any customer turned up by just seeing analog games so we instead put those rewards that we offered for winning any of that games on display and offered different plans for the audiences after a suggestion by a teacher for it.
Lo3 -To personalize the experience for those customers, so we offered them a keychain as a prize for winning any of those games offered on our stall which was displayed to them.
my partner and I not only set up a stall but also planned every aspect of it—including what we would offer, how we would operate, and how we would manage logistics. This required strategic planning, organization, and execution, all of which align with LO3.
Collaboration and Conflict Resolution (Learning Objective 5: Demonstrate skills and benefits of working collaboratively)
While working together, there were times when our group experienced conflict. Disagreements arose, but we always managed to collaborate and divide our roles effectively within the stall.
To overcome these conflicts, we developed a communication strategy. This helped us maintain a positive working environment and focus on achieving our goal of attracting customers.
Outcomes and Learnings
After we transformed our strategy by showing people the rewards which they would get if they win any of those games which we are offering so there were more no. of customers who chose to come and play on our stall from it, though as there was more amount spent on getting those rewards such as keychains in a much larger quantity so there were more customers required for it but this was a learning experience to take more calculated risks for it, but overall it was a hectic but nice experience.
This experience offered valuable takeaways. We learned the importance of staying calm under pressure, remaining open to suggestions, and adapting to overcome challenges. We also honed our teamwork and communication skills, which are essential in any situation.
